Intel core 2 duo E8200 bottle-knecking the EVGA 650 non-ti 2GB

Hi

i am having crappy FPS when playing blacklight retribution (to test the GPU)  minecraft etc

About 40fps

is my CPU bottleknecking the GPU?

It's the GPU. I have the same issue with my 5830, which is on the same level as 650, and I have a 4.5GHz 2500k. In order to get 60FPS, I have to turn down the res to 720, and settings on medium or something like that. I haven't played it in a while.

thanks for the help i will use 1280*720 as i only had a problem with blacklight retributions "SHIT but it was free to test" and far cry 3 at 20FPS :[ but as i exspected its not a extremely powerful GPU and i'll stick with games 2011 and below.

Im happy with what i got as i mainly play minecraft and call of duty and im not a "serious gamer"

Heres a question why cant games developers stop using extremely powerfull GPU'S and start developing games that support GPU'S that arent as powerful

Play console ports. Or just use console-like graphics settings (720p, low-medium settings, 30FPS). One of the advantage of PC gaming is faster hardware. and consequently better graphics. There are quite a few new games that are playable on older GPU's if you're willing to sacrifice graphics quality. I'm still playing some new games with the 5830, though I'm trading it for a 650.

I think the hilarious thing is BL Retribution doesn't even *that* good graphics, yet it requires more of my GPU than BF3 and BF3 looks a lot better. It's just not optimized well at all, but you can't really complain that much as it works well enough and is free.

hmm, i have the same card and as long as i have 40+ fps im good, or 60 or so in shooters. but i play at 1440 x 900 and ive never run into a game that i have to play on "low" settings. by the way im running an i5 3570k. so im thinking some of it might be your cpu.

Your GPU is drawing just about 40% less pixels than ours are... My Radeon 5830 will chew games up at that res.

With blacklight, I have the same frame-rate issue and I have a 4.5GHz Core i5 2500k which would be considerably faster than your 3570k, unless you have yours running at a minimum of 4.4GHz; it's a GPU bottleneck.

The best way to check if it's a CPU bottleneck is to adjust graphic settings. If you don't get a noticable boost from lowering the settings, then it's a CPu bottleneck. IF you do notice improvement, then it's a GPU bottleneck.

Again, I can confirm performance boost by lowering settings.

still, when i run it at 1920 x 1080 i can get medium settings out of most games. and the cpu is clocked at 4.2 ghz

i havent played BF3 but blacklight was free so i got it to test my gpu... its the maps that lag as they are poorly designed and the game isnt fair anyway coz u have to pay $20-100 to get a weapon that actually can kill someone

thanks for the help! the GTX650 go for the supersuperclocked as it has mote CUDA core than mine hence 30% faster and only 20% away from a 660 unless you overclock it

thanks ill be looking into a new cpu and mb next year as i havent got the money to spend £300 pounds for a slight performance inrease...

(im only 16)

how come we pay tonnes of money  to make PC and yet we have to get at least 2 GPU'S to play at a solid 72FPS (the same as you eye can see)

yes it is a CPU bottlekneck as its only running at 2.66GHZ and to be honest is shit but i got the PC for free so i cant really complain (i added the GPU to replace an on nvidia 8600gts that came with it)

Great my brand spanking gpu's fan has just broke what next!!!!!!!        next gpu guys can you recommend me a gpu that can play crysis 2 and far cry 40-60fps at 1360x768

1366x768, the Radeon HD 7770 should do the trick, and it's very affordable.
