Yesterday in the forums somebody asked if we received Intel review guidelines from Intel for the Ryzen review as well. A very curious question, I answered no. And if they did we simply never use them as we do things our own way (as we always do).
They question itself was already curious but if we dive deeper into the story we see the claims have been made by Semi-Accurate, not the most unbiased source. Then again, we see no reason for them to make this stuff up. Also some other press apparently received that email. So yes, as it seems Intel has been reaching out to certain media in shameless attempt to influence upcoming benchmark scores in their favor. Intel's PR department is contacting media and calling in favors with the press by issuing them "guidelines" on how to review AMD Ryzen. Intel's PR emails include this line: "call us before you write."
This is the story of the day for sure. It is going to be a rough week for Intel, that's for sure. But if true, come on Intel, really?
P.S I only just noticed this was mentioned in the lounge, but not everyone spends the time to sift through that, so i guess having it's own thread to make it easier to notice by viewers is okay.
This is not OK at any point of the imagination. Intel you have been on the top for 5 years or so. You had your chance to give us a good product but instead you wait for AMD to hunt you down and then try to dry them out. Not Ok!
I really hope Ryzen is really good so they have the finance to release their mobile line. Intel´s stupid dualcore 15W cpus are not good enough and at the other end they have their 45W quadcores. But they won´t release even a 35W quadcore even though they have the 35W 7700T (that it both faster and cheeper than the mobile parts). Of course the mobile parts can run down to 35W TDP but they managed to push the dualcores from 35W down to 15W but the quadcore are stuck at 45W.
Common AMD spank Intel´s lilly ass and give us a competition!!!
If this company would have their HQ here in Europe they would be slaughtered by the EU. Why the hell is this allowed. I would gladly charge them well into the millions so they would be realy in trouble... So angry right now. If no one starts to do something about this "cuz this bullshit is stretching over the years" i am totally okay for amd to pick up the dirty showell and smash intel back into their stupid faces.
It has been done in the past, and millions is essentially a "wrist-slap" in comparison to what the practice can accomplish; which is eroding AMD's finances, just enough for intel to leapfrog them again.
I think Ryan is correct. People int the thick of things deal with this kind of thing all the time, if they just keep their hair on it will probably be alright.
This isn't too far out of the norm for one company to email reviewers over their competitors' impending launch, but Intel seemed unstoppable...
That was even included in the end of the Tweaktown original report... I want to see substantiated proof that Intel is trying to lock AMD out this time before condemning them. As Tweaktown put in their article, this isn't out of the norm behavior for companies to simply reach-out to reviewers when a competitor launches a big product. That alone isn't enough to grab the pitchforks and riot, but proof that Intel is trying to persuade reviewers or other tactics of the like would be.
Intel hasn't even started undercutting, cutting out oems, and generally messing with AMD's world yet. The low end gaming station isn't a big threat but they can price cut and crush. When AMD comes out with entry level server class machines next year Intel will really start a full court press. Till then it is just as easy to sit and watch. AMD could implode without any help at all.
AMD's implosion was a result of intel antitrust shenanigans dating back to the Pentium4/Athlon days; although the revolving door of marketing CEO's didnt help in the later years. Despite AMD having the superior chips at the time, Intel secured the oem marketshare by drafting exclusivity deals with key players(Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.). No doubt Intel has broken out their rolodex and beginning their rounds of cold-calls again. Lets see how the market reacts with "take-2" of history repeats..
FFS This is why you need competition! Else you get shit like this happening. On the other hand: The EU might get on this anyway, because fucking with consumers in the EU will get you in trouble. Just like last time.
We can only hope. Though even last time it did nothing to Intel just bailed out AMD. The fine if 1.4 odd billion was nothing to Intel by the time it came about, 2009 a good 5-6 years after the antitrust was filed.
Unless penalties are in the region of half a years revenue Intel will just sail past any and all sanctions tossing pocket change at the gaping maw of onlookers while they smile wide.
