I am upgrading my CPU from a AMD Athlon II x4 to a AMD Phenom X4 964 BE.
Can I just swap out the cpu's and then just turn on my computer or what do I have to do?

You need a couple things like rubbing alcohol and new thermal paste. For a more detailed approach:

Edit:
That is how you install a processor. To take out the processor is almost that simple. You need some rubbing alcohol to take off the old thermal paste on the processor. No, do not reuse thermal paste.
Nope. It's as simple as that.
I have no good paste ATM so i will use the stock shit that comes on the stock fan and then in a week ill buy a new cooler and paste. So all i gotta do it swap the CPUs out? Sweet!
Hmm, the stock thermal paste isn't soo bad. I've used it before. Just don't OC. Also! Make sure your motherboard socket supports your processor. You can check your motherboards socket with CPU-Z. Just make sure the processors has the same socket as your Motherboard and you are good to go!
Yea they are AM3 i know that thanks though
Yep, NP. I just wanted to say the socket thing just in case. I've seen people try to install the wrong processor into a MOBO. Good Luck!
first you undo the latch on the cooler retention bar on your heatsink, then you gently twist it a few degrees back and forth until it gives and you can lift it off. After that you raise the little plastic lever and lift the processor out. When you go to install the new you just place it with the little golden triangle on the corner lined up with the triangle impression on the corner of the plastic socket. After that you can lower the retention lever on the socket and move on to the surface prep. Clean off all the contact surfaces with a paper towel to get off any old thermal paste, then give them a final wipe down with a coffee filter and some rubbing alcohol. After that you can look up on Arctic Silver's help page to see how to properly install the thermal paste for your processor. After you get the line/dot/cross of thermal paste applied, squish the heat sink back on top and give it a couple degrees of twist back and forth to help it get seated properly. Then reattach the retention clip and lower its lever back down to lock it into place.
