Install Help on Asus N70Sv

A couple of years ago I installed Ubuntu 16.04 on this laptop with mild success. I had to disable wireless in the I/O security in the BIOS to get it to boot.

It always greeted me with an error, which I never solved and I ignored it.
It wasn’t my daily driver when I installed it.

Yesterday I decided to upgrade to 18.04, because I thought WIFI could work with the newer kernel. It had a few errors, which I didn’t wrote down.

After the reboot it had an purple screen with an “smear” in the middle, so I rebooted into safe mode and it worked fine, backed up my data. and wiped the drives as I had a 32GB SDD lying around. (the laptop has two 2.5" bays)

I grabbed Linux Lite off the website as i thought that it will be a better choice as the Gnome desktop. Did

#dd bs=4M if=path/to/ISO of=/dev/USB-Drive status=progress oflag=sync

tried to boot into it with WIFI on in the bios, and it gave me a blank courser
turned it off, greeted me with the Linux Lite boot screen
Live mode - blank courser
live mode (safe mode) - successful boot
testing medium integrity - hangs indefinitely

I installed it in safe mode but it after finishing I clicked reboot now and it froze immediately - so I forcefully shut it down which ended up giving me grub rescue after reboot

Hardware Specs:

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8600 @2.53Ghz
Nvida Geforce GT130M
4096MB RAM - in safe mode and 16.04 it always showed 3.0GB
32GB SSD
320GB HDD 5400RPM
Azurewave AR5B91 802.11b/g/n Wifi card PCIe mini

Boot configuration:
32GB SSD:
29GB as /
3GB as swap

320GB HDD
as /home

What is needed to resolve these issues?

Thanks
