So I just recently bought a Xeon, And I wanted to test the chip and make sure everything was running right. So I threw in my old R7770, and it would boot and just randomly kill the screen and lose signal and never come back, I always thought that this was a hardware problem because this would happen before which prompted the replacement for my R7770.
But I think I figured out the problem. Late last night I did a fresh install of windows 8.1, everything went great except my mobo drivers, but that was easily squashed. After about 20-30 minutes of usage like I said earlier the screen would go black and lose signal. I got super frustrated at this because it was the same thing that happened before. So I went to install the latest driver from AMD's website, and began my installation. Everything went smooth until the very end.
A error came from windows saying that it was not accepting the digital signature from the new drivers. It didn't give me an option to manually accept them right there I had no choice but to cancel the installation. So I went through the "GPEDIT" And turned off digital signatures (Just until I can install the drivers), And I went back to installing the AMD drivers, However this time was different, This time about mid way through the installation the screen goes black, You know whenever you install new gpu drivers it does this, So I wasn't alarmed, However It never comes back, Almost like it never finished installing.
The only way to get it back is with manually turning off by case switch. Logging back on to my desktop shows that the AMD drivers never installed. I tried installing the drivers in "Safe Mode" but it seems like I can't install it there either. Not the same problem it just tells me AMD cant detect things.
So I was wondering if there's a way to forcibly do and installation through safe mode, or should I just reinstall windows? BTW I am sorry about the wall of text, I just thought I should explain the whole situation. Thank you in advance for all your guy's help.
Go here and click the Official Download link ... Extract it and then run the .exe. Select Safe Mode from the dropdown menu and then it will reboot you into safe mode.
Login, DDU will launch... You choose your vendor and then select remove and reboot.
Once you've done all of this, log back in to windows and run the driver installation again.
Did everything you said, But unfortunately the same problem came up. During the installation the screen goes black I lose signal and it never comes back. I can't really wrap my head around what exactly is happening with the installer.
I'm not entirely sure what the problem is either if DDU doesn't clear it up.
That software is pretty good and it even cleans out your registry of residual bullshit from prior installations.
You're sure there's nothing wrong with the hardware? I've honestly never had the problem you're describing in all my years of dealing with AMD stuff.
Did you try getting a new copy of the drvier from the website just in case you somehow ended up with a borked installer? I've had to do that a couple of times.
I initially thought it was a hardware problem a few years ago when I used this GPU. But it runs fine in Safe mode for ever no black screens there at all. And this leads me to believe that its a software thing.
The problem is im not sure if its on window's side, or on AMD's. No error come up, Is there an installation log I can pull up to see what was the last thing that was happening similar to a crash log? Maybe if I could see what is happening during the black screen I could maybe find a way to combat it.
And yes I got them directly from AMD as soon as I installed this windows 8.1
Odd here it says it was untrusted, However user trusts signer, and that it was successfully installed. This is what caught my eye, I'll continue looking through it because its a massive log.

I am not the most inclined in this but, I think it was trying to find new versions for the drivers, but concluded that it has the latest drivers? I maybe wrong honestly all of this is way above my head. I am just trying to understand it. or find a cause.
No I was just wonder as there is ongoing and intermittent issues with DisplayPort on AMD. It shows up on different cards and different driver at different times. but you are not having that issue so carry on.
Thats said try some other outputs and see if anything changes. Can't hurt.
Sorry for the long reply, I have been literally giving the damn thing all my attention, this has to be the most confusing thing ever.
Yes I was installing as admin. But still didn't work. So I figured I'd do a fresh install of windows 8.1 three of those installs later, I say fuck it, lets try a different windows. So I moved on to 10. Same shit. Goes black during install and never comes back.
I did one last try with the auto detect on AMD'S website and it just won't let me booy anymore. So I am a complete loss. I'll see my posy screen but after that its the black screen I am so well acquainted with.
The Gtx 750 I have here hasn't done shit even from windows 8.1 all the way to 10 there is no progress at all with that you thing.
I think this is stupid that modern GPU's can't live long enough without drivers to even install them, and then in the process of installing them they die mid way.
And I've literally rulled out the motherboard the cpu, and ram out, because their brand new. And the Psu has more than enough power and has never once faulted me once.
Another thing I want to note, out of shear frustration on it not being able to get past the post screen without black screen. I threw both the 750 and the r7770 in together, it the damn thing made it into the desktop. I just don't understand this whole situation. I'm leaning on it being a GPU problem, but the drivers not being able to be installed rises red flags.
I'm seriously lost on what to do. I have done everything that came to mind and now im just sitting here...
I had similar issues with upgrading to 10. Wild rumors on the nvidia side have the latest driver has issues.Try the previous driver version. The same with amd drivers. What antivirus are you using ? Is it blocking driver installs ? Single monitor or dual monitor ? With one turned off due to new install ? I recently did a fresh install of 10 leaving both my monitors hooked up but during the updating of 10 it decided that my turned off monitor was the default instead of active one. Boot screen then black screen nothing. Lost hours to that :( What gpu was hooked up to the monitor when it made it to desktop ? Make sure that your system drivers are fully updated. I mean all drivers for everything most importantly your network drivers. Possible that the driver downloads are getting corrupted for some reason during download ? Try make sure the system is fully updated before installing the display drivers. ( Win 10 seems to have issues with that ) Do you know about http://www.wagnardmobile.com/ display driver uninstaller ?
I have three monitors but I disconnected them during all installations of windows. All the times I have tried this they have all been fresh installs of windows.
I used DDU that was provided to me earlier but still nothing. So far I have tried Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and am currently in the process of trying Windows 7.
As for the network drivers. They are the newest drivers available on Asrock's website. And they work fine every time I install then the network comes right up and works great. And I can't really update windows because I can't keep it alive for more then 20-30 minutes. after those 30 minutes it goes black and I have to start all over again.
System sleep or hibernate interrupting the install process ? Ssd or hdd going bad ? Have you checked windows error reports. That smacks of a hardware issue. I can see having an issue with one os or another but not all of them.
http://www.memtest86.com/ ram testing Last be not least the PSU. How old is it ? Test it or try another.
I disabled sleep, Still does the same. I installed windows on two different drives one 250GB and another 450GB, so I don't think its a space problem.
The PSU is only three years years old. And unfortunately I don't have another to test with. Within the next few weeks I'll be buying a R9390, So I am hoping its the GPU acting up. My R7770 has lifetime warrenty so I actually think I am going to RMA it in hope to rule out the GPU.
I tried checking with Speccy, But nothing comes up. You might be on to something this may just be a temperature problem, But wouldn't the fan on the gpu ramp up when it sees it's temperature starting to rise even without drivers?
or is the fan entirely controlled by the software?
