Hello, I recently saw the video you guys have posted on YouTube ($400 gaming computer) while looking for instruction on how to build one. I have three old desktops that I can a
Salvage as much as I can also but don't know what's good enough to keep. Also, would the computer you would be able to build with your video be able to play arma 3? That's the main point for me.
Thank you
Could you link the video you're referring to? They made multiple.
Download speccy, and let us know what hardware you have now.
Mostly if the harddrives should be use able. If you have i5s or better that or three years old, might have a cpu.
Here is the video
Salvage the dvd drive, random wires, and if the ram is the right kind you might be able to get away with stealing that too. Maybe a fan or two. You can save a buck salvaging the actual case, if you don't care about aesthetics.
Why are you posting that nonsense?
Be helpfull or just dont post thanks.
I think you could switch out the A88X for a A68H chipset.
It's pretty new so I think X4 860k support shouldn't be a problem.
Well, what's your exact budget, and what's the hardware you already have.
Here is what I got for hardware

And for Streetguru's question, however much it costs to build a computer that can play a game like arma 3.
Thank you all for your comments and helping me find what I should get.
Looking forward to your comments.
dang. them some oldies. you wont be able to salvage really anything except some of the hard drives
Grab anything with sata, and then decorate your walls with the rest of the hardware.
There's a lot of things that can do that, what size of PC do you want? How much are realistically willing to spend?
here is what id do if i where in your shoes. take thoes hdd out and use them in this computer http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HGChJx
a rig with a 280 for this cheep is amazing imo, id save a tad bit to get it.
I thought arma didn't like AMD or something like that.
Nevermind then, found some benchmarks, just gotta overclock, 860K is basically on par with the Phenom X4 for reference
If you are looking for a cpu, that can specificly play Arma 3 for cheap.
Then the Pentium G3258 will probably be your best bet.
But a game like FC4 will not run on it.
Pirated version does run on it, which is kinda weird lol.
However, with the build i suggested, Pentium G3258 + Asrock H97M pro, you basicly have a good base for future upgrades, you can upgrade to an i5 later on, and then trow a highend gpu in aswell.
Then you basicly have a beasty gaming system.
But keep in mind, that the PentiumG will of course strugle in some games.
Those 3 old computers dont have anything salvageable TBH even the hardrives will be SATA rev 1 thay will be slow as sluge for gameing from but it will do you antill you can afford something better and you maybe able to reuse one of the case's (i doubt it) but for $400 in part's will get you this.

Total: $358.92 (after rebates) Base Total $402.95 before rebates --> this may give you some wiggle room on a new case (i suggest a cooler master N200 for a cheap end good case)
Also a very good idea. ☺
Take it from a current Arma 3 Player.........Quad core or go home.
No Core i3s. If AMD, 860K with A88X or FX 6300-8370 and 970-990FX. If Intel, I5-4500 series or better. Overclock those chips to hell and back. The game is currently VERY CPU heavy. You can get by with a Geforce GTX460 easily and still have decent graphics at a nice framerate. Intel will give you a boost in FPS but on a $400 budget, go with the 860K and OC that bitch. Fast RAM 1866 or better and lots of it. Stick Arma 3 on an SSD for best performance. You can leave Windows on a standard HDD. Arma 3 would be fine on a 64GB SSD.
Here is a build in the range of around $500 that should play Arma 3 just fine and still allow for upgrading in the future. The 860K is more than capable of overclocking to 4.5GHz on Air and 4.7GHz on Water. Plus, pair it with a 270X or 280/X and it wont bottleneck the 270X and should not bottleneck the 280X especially overclocked.

I have seen this benchmark from Hardware pal, a few times passing.
But to me this looks a bit fake.
In the article they claim they used a GTX770 4GB version for all these test.
No way you get 120+ fps with that in Arma 3.
Even not with an intel cpu, unless they have tested this on realy low setting or resolution.
