I'm Having Trouble Choosing a 1440p Monitor

So, I've been in the market for a 1440p monitor for a while now. I have a 980ti, and 1080p @76hz (overclocked) is boring.
I've been looking at all kinds of monitors, and have pretty much decided that I want a 144hz ips panel. That narrows it down quite a bit, but there is one more major point I've yet to decide. Freesync or G-sync? It should be obvious with the aforementioned 980ti, but the G-sync panels with high refresh rates are sooooo expensive.

So, I thought about just getting the Freesync panel and then getting a AMD Polaris GPU later on in Q4 or early next year. The Freesync equivalent is $200 less.

Is G-Sync really that much better of an experience, or could I get away with just running without it? Any other high refresh rate 1440p monitors I should look at?
Thanks

I have the MG279Q and it's fantastic.

Adaptive sync is really nice for immersive gaming, but on the MG279Q it has a limited operating range of 35-95hz out the box (expandable to 31-110). Apparently on the ASUS monitor the limitation is in the panel vs it being a Freesync limitation. So you won't be able to use adaptive sync beyond 95fps. The Acer monitor using G-Sync has full range (35-144 I believe). Beyond that the differences seem to be few.
