I'm done, completely and utterly done with AMD Graphics cards. I've sent in my R9 280x a few months back due to screen flickering, horizontal and vertical colored lines covering my whole screen which makes me have to do a hard reset and eventually NO output recognition. After I received my new card from Gigabyte everything was working perfectly fine up until last week. I started having slight screen flickering while playing games and even simply browsing the internet or just on my desktop.
Today was the day that this card once again took a huge steaming shit on itself. I'm going to RMA it AGAIN, get the new card back and sell it so I can buy the 970 or 980. I've tried everything in my power to fix the damn thing but NOPE! Guys, has this ever happened to you? What did you do to fix it (if anything worked)
Unusual to have a new card die on you twice. Could be your power supply, motherboard, monitor, or perhaps your gpu temps. Not sure if you tested any of those.
I had 3 GTX680's die in a row (over a 5 week period) and due to that I will NEVER purchase a Gigabyte product again. Maybe your like me and won the shit card lottery.
I know my brothers AOC monitor has terrible flickering. Nothing to do with the GPU.
It could be a multitude of other problems you are haveing. It ends with the GPU but have you tried other GPUs in you system? Did it happen to them?
Really you need to post full system spec. And then we can go about helping.
EDIT: It could even be the cables you are using. Basically take a scientific approach, eliminate all variables till you are left with a measureable result.
The 280X cards have A LOT of trouble with artifacting, This is because they are often overclocked so they overheat, even if just by a little bit, a factory overclock. The VRM's aren't directly cooled by most aftermarket coolers and I've seen some pretty bad issues with Asus DCUII 280x. You can read about it more here:
Looks like we found the problem. Gigabyte makes unreliable AMD GPUs, unreliable Nvidia GPUs, and unreliable motherboards. All of them have low ratings on Newegg, with one or two exceptions. Throw that shit out and find a Sapphire.
And now we know why Gigabyte cards are usually the cheapest.
I had flickering on my AMD R9 280x once, but it just stopped after two weeks. Currently my GPU's working very well in terms of performance, but the only game that doesn't seem to work very well is Prototype 2, it keeps crashing after one hour of gameplay using the AMD 14.9 GPU drivers; during the AMD 14.4 GPU drivers, the game lags like hell after fifteen minutes and crashes after an hour - So far, this is the only game I play that does that on the AMD GPU.
I would be looking at something else at fault in your system. Yes its very possible that you've received shit cards in the past, but not 100%. If the card's were in fact new and not refurb's.
A weak psu can be the cause of a multitude of gpu related problems. The 280's/7970's do require a decent amount of stable 12v amps. High ripple etc can damage cards easy enough over time.
Could also be your pcie lane, (ie your motherboard) at fault. Did you try another lane if available? Or try the gpu (& past gpu's) in other machines?
Did you test with a different monitor and/or cable?
Sorry if my post has come across as putting you at fault but it is easy to blame the hammer when the hand could be at fault.
If you are experiencing multiple brand new cards fail in succession, that suggests to me that you probably have a problem with either your motherboard or power supply. Do your cards get adequate airflow? Heat could also be an issue. Your gpu's failing could just be the symptom of the real problem.
I haven't overclocked my card or have even attempted too. Seasonic make (in my opinion) the BEST PSU's so I don't think it's that. I've tried the card in a different slot but the same result. I've also tried different HDMI cables and a few different monitors but I still get the same result.
No, your post isn't coming across as putting me at fault. I should have specified that I have tried a multitude of different things with no success. Thanks for your time though.
Seeing as how two in a row went bad, I am going to suggest looking elsewhere. Could it be a bad mobo or psu giving bad/insufficient/excessive power? I am not too sure how to go about checking on that though. If you do look into it, remember that even a good brand can have some faulty units.
You could try putting the card into a different pc if possible. If it was already ruined by a faulty psu or mobo though, it would likely mess up in a different pc as well though, but it is worth a shot, maybe.
i would indeed advice to try the card in a diffrent system if possible.
you could also try a diffrent monitor cable. idk which output you use, but if a cable is crappy then you can offcourse suffer from the same strange flicker issues aswell
I'm going to try a different GPU tomorrow (my buddy is giving me his old 6770) I've also tried different monitor cables but I still get the same result.
