The backplate I got for Xigmatek Aegir doesn't fit the asus z170 mobo i got... Theres supposed to be another type of the backplate but its not in the box... I didnt touch the box for 4 years... I got no stock cooler and tomorrow is holiday... I'm about to cry ;(

Here's the other type of the backplate thats supposed to be in the set...

Woohoo i managed to get it working amd everything is fine for now... ;p

Yeah ill mod the backplate without tools or skills ;(

I'm sorry for you, have a hug

My approach wouldn't be as manly as Finnigan's, I'd purchase a replacement backplate, it doesn't have to be the same brand.
In some stores you can ask vendors for compatibility, especially if you provide measurements.

Or contact those douches on their support site, I doubt they give you the backplate for free but maybe they can help? :S

I bought that cooler 4 + years ago its the mobo and intel cpu thats new ;( thx for the hug tho on saturday ill go out to buy something but im too tired to reconnect the old mobo so no pc until saturday yay... Eh mby ill just slap it together the cables are the worst cuz i dont have a modular psu and the case isnt that great either

Ohh I read wrong, I understand now.
Well, since the cooler hasn't been used at least you can sell it :)

Trouble is that you need the backplate to be one piece... it's purpose is to keep the circuit board from bending when you screw down the heatsink.

If you think about it, the heatsink is pushing DOWN in the middle and pulling UP at the screw points. If there's no extra structure behind it to prevent bending, the circuit board takes all that stress.

You could lay the system on its side and just sit the cooler on there till you get a new one if you don't want to mod it. Temps won't be spectacular but it will suffice.

Hmm strange that it doesnt fit.
If it supports socket 1150, 1155 etc it basicly should fit.

Try to sell it if it has not been used. Try to get another cooling with the money you'll get from the cooler or save up for a better cooler.

If you're going to overclock that cpu I've read that cheapo coolers doesn't cut it, do your research first to get the best one for you (without going overkill or overspending)

I know, i kmow need to buy some but first need modular psu and better case...
