Hi all.
So I’m supposed to be ordering 2 of these: Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series Touchscreen Laptop | Intel Core i7 | 4GB Graphics | 4K Ultra HD today for me and a friend.
From Costco in the US as the price in Australia is a bloody joke…
the ones I’m getting is the highest configuration version from the US (fourth one to the right on the list as comparison, which AU doesn’t even have! AU ONLY have the first 2 on the left, at outrageous prices).
The AU website only has the lowest configuration of it (for $1999AUD!!!)…
The US website has all configurations of if for a much better price ($1299 USD, and at Costco for $1099 USD which is where I’m getting it).
highest config in US is $1099USD = $1469.94 AUD
lowest config in AU is $1999 AUD
even with postage, GST, import fee’s, etc, it comes to (~$1500AUD ea) ~$3000AUD , all fee’s calculated in (shipping + import duty/GST) + a few extra bits and bobs.
I’m sending money to a friend in the US to buy it and ship it to me.
My question is;
Is there a notebook with the same or better specs for the same or lower price? ( $1099 USD / $1469.94 AUD )
Has to have the same or better specs as what this Dell has; Skylake CPU, 4K UHD screen, GTX 960M or better (with a HDMI or DisplayPort for 4K output), 2 DIMM slots for 16 or 32GB RAM capacity (this Dell comes with 2 x 8GB DIMM’s), at least 1 M.2 PCIe3 x4 to support a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB NVMe M.2 SSD I’ll be installing, a 2.5" SATA3 6Gbps bay for data drive, a removable battery (Dell states this notebook to have integrated battery, which it’s not, it’s removable under the bottom cover), and finally of course needs an M.2 (preferred) or miniPCIe for wifi+BT, at least 3x USB3 (I’d love a type C connector that has thunderbolt 3 if at all possible in this price range
)
no DVD drive needed. the 2.5" internal secondary drive is mandatory, which holds me off of a lot of good notebooks…
Keep in mind this dell survives upto around 10hrs on battery with average surfing and videos… has a 74Wh battery.
Pic of inside, 1 screw to remove bottom cover.

TLDR;
I’m spending $3600 AUD on 2 awesome notebooks. (about $1200 USD / $1500 AUD each + shipping/import duty from USA to AU because AU sucks.
I need the same or better as above specs for same or better price, needs to be current gen,
I’d absolutely love it if it had a USB3.1 gen2 thunderbolt3 port, wouldn’t need a HDMI / MiniDP / DisplayPort than.
Thank you very sincerely if I can get any help at all if possible, it may not be able to beat the deal that dell have here in this notebook, but I don’t want to be blowing all this money if there’s something better out there.
