I'm building a PC but not getting any power but

Hello good folks od level1tech. I have a question, well more like a problem with my new build turning on. I will list my hardware and possibly some pictures of how I have everything hooked up. If someone could possibly help me out with what I’m doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you.

My hardware list consists of.

Motherboard - Z790 Elite AX
Video card - Ventus x2 GeFore RTX 4070 Super
Memory card - Trident Z5 RGB
Processors- Intel Core Unlocked I9 14th Gen
Watercooler - MSI Mag Coreliquid 360R V2
Power Supply - Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 750W
PC Case - Montech Sky two Morocco Blue

Do i have a large enough power supply to power the components? The ram sticks light up but thats the only power I’m receiving.

Someone please help me. Please and thank you!!

If I need to I’ll take photo of where and what I have stuff plugged into. Thank you again.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

If the RAM sticks’ RGB is lit up it might still be doing memory training (a ‘hurry up and wait’ scenario). I peeked at the manual at - Z790 AORUS ELITE AX (rev. 1.0) Support | Motherboard - GIGABYTE Global. Are the boot diagnostic LEDs to the right of the bottom of your RAM sticks lighting up? If so, which one?

Likewise, how much RAM did you install? 16GB, 32, 64, etc? And how many sticks? That will affect the training time.

Welcome to the community!

I would try getting to BIOS without the GPU plugged in. If you can’t get there it is likely a memory issue. Try unplugging one of them and by process of elimination seeing if there is one or the other that has an issue.

If you can get to BIOS with the GPU unplugged, maybe there is something wrong with the GPU? I think 750W is enough to power that system.

The RAM is supposed to be staggered correct? One stick goes into slot two and one into slot four? And I’m sorry Molly I’m not sure what you mean so I sent a photo of what I meant by lit up.

The watercooler isnt powering up nor is the grapics card the. The fan isn’t even kicking on when i turncon the power supply

Correct, should be one in slot A2 and B2 (or 2nd and 4th from the CPU out).

For the status LEDs, they are these four things here:
statusLEDs

You’ll want to watch these while it’s trying to boot up to figure out which part is misbehaving. For which one corresponds to which bit, it’s in the manual on page #20:

So what I’d do is press and hold the power button for 4 seconds to shut it off, then once off unplug it for 30 sec. After that, plug it back in, start it up again, and watch the status LEDs.

Yeah unfortunately I’m not getting any lights on them four. frustrating to say the least

Which CPU are you attempting to run? 14th gen i9, but which one specifically?

Asking as it appears support for those was on a later bios (F9) that maybe your board doesn’t have yet?

CPU support list:

If so, you’ll have to grab the latest bios and use a flash drive to use their Q-Flash thing to update the bios.

Intel Core I9 14900k

32Gigz i apologize I forgot you asked that also

Sorry I meant i9 14900k not 800 my apologies

Unplug the GPU then try to boot it?

When you mean unplug take it completely off the motherboard?

Yeah remove it and use your onboard motherboard display port to try and boot to the BIOS.

Yes sir, I’ll let you know the results, I got called into work for a fatality accident so it will be a few but will definitely get back to you. Thank you for your help so far but will definitely let you know.

Lights up with idle power but does nothing when you try to boot it up?

Definitely power supply. I’ve had the exact same issue, and Thermtake is not renowned for high-quality power supplies.

yo you didnt list which 14th gen i9 you have so i picked the highest power draw one for a worst case scenario. Part List - Intel Core i9-14900K, GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, Montech SKY TWO ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

two things stand out
one the bios

Warning: The Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX ATX LGA1700 Motherboard supports the Intel Core i9-14900K 3.2 GHz 24-Core Processor with BIOS version F9. If the motherboard is using an older BIOS version, updating the BIOS will be necessary to support the CPU.

two you are at 587 watts without boost or auto overclocking or storage or peripherys like mouse and keyboard. maybe you have a different i9 cpu but with how much power the high end cpus and gpus are boosting to especially intel and nvidia you could be hitting over volt protection as well as the bios issue. gamers nexus has a good video on the topic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnRyyCsuHFQ

besides updating bios you may need a more powerful psu

I did give the specific CPU, the power supply was no good so newegh sent me a new one, but now it turns on and will run for about 3 minutes maybe less then it will shutdown and then start back up 15 seconds later run for another 3 minutes and then shut back down with these weird lights at the bottom of the motherboard. Picture will be added…

Any thoughts on that issue? Thanks for the help so far ladies and gentlemen.

Okay I have an update. The PC is turning on I’m getting a screen on my monitor but I think my watercoolers pump isn’t working because my CPU temp goes too 100 degrees pretty quick and shuts down

i missed that reply and lol correctly guessed the right cpu and ram pure luck

anywho is the new psu the same wattage? have you gotten to the bios in that 3 minutes?

Yes psu is same wattage same brand, yes im able to get to the boot up bios but the cpu temp is going to a 100 degrees, so im assuming bad pump on my watercooler. Thats the only thing i can think of

Of course the obvious question did you provide power to the pump it self?

Also make sure you removed the sticker covering the pre-applied thermal paste.
