ok i have never built a computer before, but i have upgraded mine and my friends, im planing to build a new computer soon and i need help picking a good motherboard.
specs: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 8 GB [2 GB X4] DDR2-800 ATI 4890 or nvidia gtx 295 Creative Lab Sound Blaster Audigy SE
i have been looking around on thoes "customize your computer" sites and most of them only have these 2 options:
[CrossFire] ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe AMD 790FX CrossFire Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, Quad PCI-E MB
EDIT: i looked at the 2 boards specs and the ASUS is better, can anyone find one that tops that one? if you want i can post the list of specs i found for it, although it is very long.
Well both boards you are looking at are amd chipsets which means you won't be able to sli if you go with the gtx 295. I happen to have the M3A79-T Deluxe board. Its a great board. If you don't have the money right now, I'd suggest you wait and buy an AM3 motherboard and go with DDR3 instead. At the minimum spend a couple extra dollars and get the DDR2-1066 if you want to go that way.
Here are some AM3 boards:
790FX: Â Â Â Â -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130223 Â Â Â Â -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131363 Â Â Â Â -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128377
or 790GX: Â Â Â Â -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131366 Â Â Â Â -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130224
Any of these would be a good pick. You can decide for yourself. Both video cards are great but I would stick with ATI if you get any of these boards. Otherwise, you need to pick a board with an Nvidia chipset if you go with the gtx 295.
Here would be one option: Â Â Â Â -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130224.
Either way is good. Note that AM3 boards will only use DDR3 whereas the boards you suggested along with the board right above with the nvidia chipset will only take DDR2. Anyway, hope this helps.
