iGPU passthrough with GVT-D - Black screen after installed spice guest tools

First post
I’ve had my first attempt at passthrough today and it partially succeeded but now I’ve hit a snag.

Everything is working fine right until the point I install the spice guest tools inside the windows 10 virtual machine. The applications open disappear (basically nothing works), the vm becomes unresponsive to the mouse, but the keyboard appears to be working as I can see which applications are in focus in the task bar and switch them.
On a reboot there is no longer any video output.

My process:
added intel_iommu=on kvm.ignore_msrs=1 vfio-pci.ids=xxxx:xxxx to grub
Created VM with virt-manager

System specs:
GTX 1060 (ubuntu 20.04 host)
6600K (iGPU Intel HD 530 passed through to guest)

If you need any logs, I’d appreciate if you could direct me on how to take them as I have no idea.

Even with the black screen, I can login if I enter my password and press enter. After that I get put back into the session where the mouse isn’t visible and neither are applications, but I can seemingly open applications and switch between them using my keyboard

Ah I’m another step closer. It looks like this “non-responsive” windows desktop is actually a second display. I was able to blindly drag an open window from the side into this desktop.

How can I make the display for the iGPU show on virt-manager? In device manager there are two display adaptors, the HD 530 and a Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor. I’d prefer to get rid of that last one.

Edit:
To offer some clarification, I created a new vm with the previous steps except I did not install any guest tools. I faced the same issue however, the only exception being my mouse was still functioning fully.

If I installed the virtio or spice guest tools then my mouse disappears completely.
