So Logan's been talking a lot about how insanely dickish American ISPs are, and I was wandering what would it take to start laying down fiber/ start a co-op ISP. There's already an established fiber network in the nearest city owned by AT&T and its quite expansive, but its only offered to businesses and at prices I can only imagine. How does this come into play? How could they fuck this up? This is all hypothetical of coarse but still I'm interested in how the community would approach this.
If I really wanted to try and get fiber, I would bug the hell out of everyone at every city council meeting, call up the county government, and start writing letters to state officials. Government loves pissing away money, why not try to get them to piss it away on something I would actually benefit from?
