Before the Windows installer restarts for the first time, all it does is copy files.
If I were to put that drive in another machine, would it configure itself to that machine? Could it finish the install without the CD/USB?

i wouldnt try. but if you're willing to start over again it's worth a try?
I'm doing it, I want answers. It's kind of a dumb situation trying to please someone who can't be pleased. The life of IT, right?
So far it looks like it's working.
If the hardware is exactly the same it will work fine. If you have different mobos and stuff it could be a problem. I did this before on Win XP and it didn't work out very well, I ended up reformatting. It worked technically but there were some driver issues that I couldn't overcome... I guess certain things install during windows install.
Oh and of course you'll have to reactivate.
