I know this is build-a-pc section but I need to build a new desk for my pc and since desks go with the pc I will post it here :D
Alright, right now I am using my computer on a normal desk, which is a bit high I think, my right hand shoulder hurts a lot, especially if I lower my chair - for my hand not to hurt I keep my chair up but this causes pain in the back after a few hours.
right now my desk is 72.5cm in height(for americans that's 28.5 inches)
I'm going tomorrow to order another one and I was thinking of 62.5cm,
what do you guys think?
thanks in advance
the keyboard drawer is the important part... typical desk is awounrf 29-30" but KB drawer is around 26-27" i think...
This is very subjective and also depends on tasks. I prefer a 75cm computer desk to rest my elbows and upper forearms on the desk and I prop up the back of the keyboard with the pegs. I like deep desks so I can fit everything on there. I push my keyboard and mouse pretty
I like my thighs to be flat and straight shins... I am 5'10".
Some people like their keyboard close to the edge of the table and usually get wrist rests since there arms are in front of the table. If that is your preference, then you probably like a lower desk so you don't have to hold your arms up.
I used to have an 85cm desk which was almost a standing desk it was really deep and I could use it as a normal desk with my chair at max height and as a standing desk for quick notes and etc. The problem was it wasn't very comfortable on my arms after more than an hour. I ended up getting wrist rests and laying them long ways under my arms.
I would recommend sitting in your chair and put your arms where you think they should be. Do it next to teh wall and make a small mark and measure it. It takes 2 minutes and will give you the best position. Remember to think about what part of your arm or wrist will touch the table.
Grab a measuring tape, sit in your computer chair, put your arms in a comfortable typing position, hold the end of the measuring tape and drop the case. This should give you a good idea or at least an approximation of where the keyboard will rest.
From there, while still seated in your comfortable chair, mark on the wall where your eye level is roughly. This would be the optimal place to have the center of your monitors. If you slouch or lean back while at the computer, then they might be fine on the top of your desk. If you sit up fairly straight, then you might want to build a riser into your desk to put your monitors on (Also, it clears up working area on your desk).
The rest is subjective and up to your wants and needs. What shape is it? Is the keyboard going to be on top of the desk or on a keyboard tray below the desk? Will you be using it for other things and need more work area or is it just a stand for your monitors keyboard and mouse? Will you be housing your desktop somewhere on or in the desk? Etc.
That's kinda what I said lol. Great minds think alike.
