Do not wait for next gen AMD. While they do have some chips with increased cache coming late this year (maby), there’s no confirmation that I know of that it’ll actually be widely available to consumers like some sort of refresh of Ryzen 5000, all they’ve really said at this point is “look what we can do”.
And the real next gen AMD will be PCIe5 and DDR5, both of which will be expensive, immature, and likely have issues that need either new motherboards or CPUs to truly fix. And that will be coming late next year, assuming it doesn’t get delayed or have technological compromises made to get it out the door.
Basically right now is the current best time to buy anything except a GPU.
Ian cutress of anandtech had a disscusion with sam nazfinger of AMD, who confirmed 100% that this 3D V(ictini) cache will be coming to a consumer facing product, with production starting at the end of the year.
So this ‘zen3D’ is basically launching sometime earlyish next year to compete with Alder lake, which with the big-little, DDR5, PCIe 5, etc is going to not only expensive, but also buggy.
Run the GPU in top slot at full x16, run the 10G NIC in any PCI-E chipset slot, it will run fine @ X4, im doing that, and dont have any issues with that exact same setup, just pick a motherboard that supports an x8 or x16 slot from the chipset, like the Asus Maximus XIII Hero
