I7 4790k or i7 6700k

I'm thinking about building a new pc to replace my current amd system for livestreaming so im wondering should I go with the older i7 4790k or the newer i7 6700k both have advantages and disadvantages

i7 4790k
- Older
- Only Supports DDR3
- Slighly better per performance
- Cost a bit less as its older
- Slightly Higher clock speed

i7 6700k
- Newer
- Supports DDR3/DDR4
- Costs mores
- Slightly better performance in some tasks such as bitcoin mining or face detection

I'm not sure what to go with becuase I want a really powerful cpu for livestreaming and some video editing but I also want to last for 3 years or until I can afford to get a better pc

Please don't mine with your CPU haha. I would go with Skylake, very little point in buying 2 year old hardware that will be supported less and less over the coming years.

lol I wasnt playing on mining but I was looking at some bench marks on cpuboss anyway xD

I'm thinking about going with skylake or maybe wait until next year and see what intel releases then

Do you intend to OC? I'd assume you are intending to if you're looking at K parts but just checking.

yeah I think ill overclock them in the future once I get better cooling

get 4790k

95% of the performance, 85% of the costs

I have the number one 4790k here when it comes to single thread fyi

yes this is one benchmark but it shows the MINUSCULE difference if performance

Yeah the IPC difference between Haswell and Skylake is minuscule, its really just down to if you want the newer features that Z170 provides over Z97

Woa there cowboy actually taking the mean of the results the 4790ks got about 92.53% of the performance for single-thread and 90.24% of the performance for the multi-thread in comparison to the 6700ks. That is, however, mixing OC'd and non-OC'd chips.

Misleading, the 6700k got +8% better single and +11% better multi thread results overall. That's like the results of a good OC.

If you can get the 4790K $40-50 cheaper go for that, if no, go for the 6700k
