I am currently still saving so don't a budget yet, but I am wondering what you guys would suggest in to of CPU, I am planning on streaming and possibly making videos for the YouTube.
Can you guys lead me to any information to help me make a more informed choice, I understand the i7 is the best choice, but lower cost equals pc earlier. I'm just wondering how much longer it'll take to do things. The rest of the system will be something along the lines of
16gb ddr3 at 1800
GTX680 or something similar (was thinking maybe 2 660s but am not sure if the performance increases would be worth loosing the possibility of upgrading with a second 680 in the future, though with recent understanding of screens am I right to think if I have a 60hz screen any fps over 60 is wasted.)
Will have SSD/s (also now considering the ram cache idea I read on here and exclude SSD.)
And yeah, not sure what other components will effect rendering times and such
So thanks in advance and I hope I have given the relevant information. Just to recap system will be mainly for gaming with streaming and video editing on the side (not going to bother if it takes away time from playing the games.)
p.s the graphics stuff it out of place but I was going to posonion pc build then realised CPU is more relevant. ( damn this guy rambles....)
Throw me a budget please, and i shall put a part list together giving you the best for your money :)
Dont use a RAM cache in place of an SSD, its worse Price vs Performance wise and you probably wont notice much of a difference unless your working with something like uber large uncompressed video files ect... and even then it probably wouldnt make that huge of a difference.
Also it depends on what exactly youll be doing, light rendering & gaming and an 8350 or 3570K will suit your needs dandily, if your constantly rendering projects and its not just basic editing then the 3770K would definitley be the better choice.
I am in New Zealand so prices are different, but I will likely use this website http://pconlineshop.co.nz/ and aim for around the 2k mark excluding a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
i have thought about the possibility of buying the parts in the u.s, getting them shipped and just getting the case over here but have yet to look down that avenue.
as for price vs performance of the ram cache I am still thinking about it, but the idea of a SSD starting to throw out errors after a year or two isn't something playing to deal with. Ideally this system will be built and enjoy for three years. (Though if I were truthful I am likely to be want to do things.)
SSD's will last for 6+ years easily so long as its a decent brand, so you shouldnt worry about that, and for international shipping try NCIX out, theyre based in vancouver so you might be lucky enough to get some things with minimal shipping costs.
Its never made sense to me why prices for electronics are higher in NZ and Australia though, i mean they're so damn close to where everything is being made its retarded, just a random though ive had for awhile.
Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40 GHz 6M LGA1155 Processor
Arctic Cooling Freezer 13
Asus SABERTOOTH Z77
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM (Kit of 2) XMP HyperX Blu
ASUS HD 7970 DirectCU II SOC 3GB
Corsair Carbide 500R
Corsair HX850
Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.12 SATA3
Corsair 120GB Neutron SSD GTX with the state of the art LAMD LM87800 processor. R/W: 555/330 MB/s
$1995.2 (this takes into account that you are paying more for paying with credit/debit card)
These are the best parts i could find for your money...
CPU coolers are terrible for choice on their site...in fact the whole selection is pretty bad, but this is what i could put together just shy of 2k :)
That build looks perfect for him, although if he wants to go AMD:
CPU: FX-8350
Mobo: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 AM3+
This runs about 50 dollars cheaper, maybe a few more. Not much of a big difference but if you want to go AMD it'll be fantastic, especially if you plan on streaming.
AMD FX 8350 or a bit cheaper 8320 is a great CPU for streaming since it has 8 core's rather than just 4 core's with virtual/fake core's...
Go with AMD, you will save up some money and have same or a bit better performance than i5 or an i7 and game developers will use 8 core's for games since PlayStation 4 use's an 8 core CPU from AMD that is a custom built APU with Jaguar arhitecture. Xbox 720 will also have a 8 core CPU but from IBM, hopefully this will help you.
FX 6300 is also fine but FX 8320/8350 is way to go for streaming, recording and editing...
Wow thanks so much guys.
BeyondNight, it's plain crazy like how we bet movies/tv series often 6+ months later, and they complain in that time about piracy!
Thanks a lot recon that's pretty similar to what I was looking at, their selection isn't great I know, somethings I might be better off looking for else where, but they have great reviews. Though I was looking at a 2TB HDD and possibly some faster ram, also was considering something like the h100 (Which I believe the site didn't stock last time I checked) because I think it'll probably do a better job handling an overclock.
But thanks again and I will make sure to let people know when I am set up and ready to game!!
Yes the H100 will give you higher headroom with overclocking, but high end air is better or equal (Noctua NH-D14/ Phanteks/ Thermalright)
I hope it all goes well for you Ginga!
Good luck mate.
Hey if buying in New Zealand( My home too) get the parts from ComputerLounge or Playtech. Ask on the CL fourum and they will help you out and give you a sweet deal.
Was just looking through computerlounge and they advertise the intel 330 128GB SSD as having 500/400 read/write Mbps. For $50 than the corsair neutron. I guess that makes it's better, am I wrong? How/why?
Since you dont seam to now heaps about PC I would create an account on computerlounges foum and they will work it out, as prices are a bit differnt here. Where in NZ are you, if in auckland you could go into CL.
I live up in northland. Was just looking at the prebuilt systems at cl, is it just me or are they over priced to &$@!.
Then went and priced a system myself got to 2982 with monitor, keyboard, mouse and a few extra Noctua case fans. Was basically the build suggest here using the amd set up, was at 2200ish with out the extras, extra 100 for the intel set up. Am now going to go price the same thing on pcshoponline.
oh shit I have been looking at pcshoponline thinking WTF have they changed their layout, then I realised I had been looking at a different shop. Lol
And CL was cheaper by 8 dollars for the system it's self.
Ok, CL includes shipping others do not you have to add that on, second some places quote price without GST. Plus look at this it will tell you that by far the best place is CL, and followed buy Playtech and Ascent.

also is this what you looked at? If so they can chage it aroung for ou to what you want.

Good night for now, will look back tomorrow morning.
