i5 3570k vs FX8350 confusion

After buying PCs from the shelf I want to build my own so here is what I came up with:

  • CPU:               Intel Core i5-3570k http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80637i53570k
  • CPU-Cooler:   Thermalright HR-02 Macho http://www.thermalright.com/products/?act=data&id=178&cat_id=27
  • Mainboard:     Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H http://www.gigabyte.de/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4153#ov
  • RAM:              G.Skill 16GB DDR3-1600 Kit <- Perfect for my Mainboard+CPU
  • GPU:              Gainward - GF GTX660TI 2048MB Phantom http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=890&lang=de
  • Powersupply: be quiet! Staight Power E9 CM 680W http://www.bequiet.com/de/powersupply/276
  • Case:             Sharkoon T28 red edition http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/node/2119
  • Drive:             some cheap 20€ ASUS DRW-blabla
  • SSD:              Corsair ForceGT 120GB http://www.alternate.de/html/product/Corsair/ForceGT_2,5_SSD_120_GB/889090/?
  • HDD:              Segate ST2000DM001 2TB
  • All for nearly 1200€ ~ 1600$

I was pretty sure to buy all this components until I saw the comparison between the AMD FX8350 and the i5 3570k...

Now I'm not sure if I should stay with my Intel + Nvidia combo or switch to FX8350 + AMD 7950.

What would be your advise?

Build will be using for games and rendering software like sony vegas and 3D engines such as Unity3D (Also very much for coding). I have only one display but in the future I'm willing to use dual or triple display

Think about what you are going to do. If you are just wanting to play games, it is not a bad idea to go the amd way. If you are looking for more upgradability, power for video editing and playing some games, go were your intel config

As I'm going use it also for sony vegas I should go with Intel following your advise. Sounds like a plan. Thank you

Let u know what you want to use your PC for and then we can make recommendations on CPU and other components?

Makes sense. Added a line in my first post. Thanks for help.

This is pretty much exactly what you want to know

The "upgradability" part goes for amd as well, considering that steamroller (3.gen fx) will be on am3+ makes it upgradable too, maybe even more as Intel is switching to 1150 with Haswell, and afair amd might stick with am3+ until DDR-4 becomes mainstream.

Otherwise you could go with Amd Cpu and Nvidia gpu (because of cuda ->), I don't know a whole lot about the rendering stuff, but I think that the 8 core fx-8350 would be good (If the programs utilize all the cores) compared to the 4 cores on the 3570k
