will a 5 or 6 generation old cpu kill your gaming performance ?

im running the 2500k and the 6800k at 4.2ghz on all cores.
the 6800k is on my full blown waterloop

The effort you put in is nice but there's one problem... everything you tested on both systems is entirely gpu bound.

The test result seem to lead to that idea don't they
But even so,
in Valley and Haven the i7 seems to get about 50 more frames

If you could test something like GTA, Witcher 3, or perhaps even Battlefield 4 i think you'd see a massive difference... potentially a 100% increase from sandy i5 to skylake i7. Even a Skylake i7 will hold back those two cards depending on how much cpu the game uses.

ive got crysis 3
bf4 no dlc

buut then ive gotttta open up my pc and swap the caaarddsss agaaiiinnnnn

GTA v would be a good test probably. This is pretty great.

So if a game doesn't really use the CPU, it won't profit from a better CPU?
And if it does, it will?

Not exactly news, is it?

Well yeah it wont realy make a whole lot of sense to do game testing with GTX1080 sli on low res like 1080p.
Because you will be cpu limmited in most cases.
The reason why you see those 50 extra max frames in heaven with the 1080 sli on the i7.
Is because the i7 was capable to feed those cards better.
But stil.

welll i knew there would be even LEss of a gap @ 4k
so i tested at 1080p to show the maximal differential in fps

also, im not sure how to get to 4k on the tests that i ran....

honestly
the only game that ive seen even dip below 60 that i play sofar is fallout 4 @ 4k
i may very well just return and or ebay the second card
as i just dont need that much horsepower
even one card blows warframe out the water 4k 100-155 fps

i dont have gta v
let me check isthereanydeal
if i can get it cheap ill nab it and run the bench

why the crap dont things have demos anymore?

lowest price is edit, wrong thing, that was dlc

looks like DOOM is down to $30
i could do doom?
(buys $3k in pc parts, refuses to buy games at full price. lol)

<-- Guilty as well.

Doom for 30,- bucks should be worth it for you, regardless if you want it for play or benchmarking purposes.
I still hope for a linux version. I promised not to buy games without a linux version anymore and so far I am totally fine doing so.

I don't understand. Why do you reply to me with that?

so, i guess doom will run on a dual core.
so that sorta makes me wanna save 30 buck

Yes. If CPU performance in games is what he's testing then maybe he should run some tests with a mid-range card as well. I'd be curious to see the results.

I can post some tests with a 970 on the 6800k
Vs the 970 on the 2500k
Can also do it with a 670

Honestly though the lower end the card the less likely you would see any discernible difference as the weaker processor would not be as stressed trying to push the frames because the GPu would not be asking as much of the system

Pm me your steam whatever and I'll try to procure GTA v for you if you do full benchies

I see it a lot of people use Crysis 3 at the spot where you hop on the train I can boot up my origin but I have no idea where my game save is I might have to play through the game to reach that point

Just throwing this out as an idea
How well would creating a steam account specifically to ^family share^ between Benchmark reviewers?

Then again I suppose finding a copy of a particular Benchmark or game is usually a non-issue or minimally costly
Yeah as soon as I wrote that down it sort of ran through my mind and kind of killed my own idea

My general idea was like one package that you can download and install that is like a one-stop-shop for benchmarking utilities and software something that you can script to run
Set it and forget it

I love seeing all this information about older cpus running with newer cards and newer games and benchmark software. This is the kind of thing I want to see more of on the internet. I guarantee you if I ever win substantial money I'd be dedicated to doing this sort of stuff.
