Norton feels like malware to the effect that I don't have the option to close it even when I disable UAC and I'm the admin account... I've tried using task manager n it tells me 'access denied' ...wtf! help please...
Norton Removal Tool http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/norton_removal_tool.html
Norton is a pos.
It's easy to uninstall, I just want to know how to close it.... it won't let me
Remove that garbage from your computer haveing Norton on your system is like haveing a second operating system running squeezing the very life out of your computer Norton will do whatever it likes you can not simply 'close' it or switch it off.
Did you try to close the process in the "details" tab?
I tried that and it said access denied... what av do u use?
I would LOVE to remove it but I don't have money for a new AV software and I can't say I'd trust ClamWin or WInDefender more... do you?... what do you use?
How about Windows Defender? If you're using Windows 8 you already have it.
Malwarebytes is great, but you have to buy the premium to get active protection instead of just scanning. It's the only one I'd consider spending any money on.
Honestly, if you stck to good sites and are the only one using your pc, all you need is windows defender (or nothing!) and malware bytes to do the odd scan every now and then
bluntly i look at porn n watch live sports/tv, and every once in a while there is an intrusion attempt stopped by Norton... so i need a solid av program...
I disabled WD .. I guess I can give it a go... i just don't want to get owned but it seems like I'm owned by norton
Do you have an adblocker?
I've used Panda and Avast before, although they advertise their paid versions alot, they are free and not too intusive if you set them up correctly
As others have said Norton is a piece of shit.
Windows security essentials and Windows Defender are also piles of shit do not ever use this, it is like using a condom with a hole in it.
Panda free, Bitdeffender free are very good.
AVG free and Aast free are okay but recently AVG has fallen down the list of ones that i would recommend. Avast has very good protection but the ads are annoying.
Avast and avg do have a lot of adds. Panda free not so much, Bitdeffender free I didn't notice any adds when i was using it but i was having a small issue, and went back to Panda free, also malwarebytes is good to run once in a while, or once a week if you know you are visiting web sites that may be infected.
Another one that I use from time to time is SuperAntiSpyware, as i do not visit "Bad" websites i cant really vouch for its testing i just use it to remove tracking cookes,
Malwarebytes and superantispyware are both ondemand scanners, they have a paid for service that makes them real time scanners.
Eset is another good one they have a free one time online scanner, but its one time, i use this along with superantispyware, malwarebytes, panda, bitdefender, avg, avast to clean peoples pc's.
My issue with bitdeffender was that it would pop up its little panel on my second monitor when i opened chrome and then i had to click it and click out of it and it would go away, it only did this on the first start-up of chrome after reboots, now this might just be an issue on my pc or it might be something bitdeffender does, idk.i didn't bother to troubleshooting it.
source click on Home and then make sure to sort by protection(just click on the word protection)
This list has mostly paid for versions however most of them run the same virus engine in thier free variants.
source for windows defender
when you go to uninstall norton it should ask for an admin password.. good luck.
I dont even run a AV my system gets a once a week scan with malwarebytes and combo fix i have no need for a AV.
You can also use peerblock and or a hostfile manager to block predatory sites. Both are free.
