I think my 7970 is broken

So I just got a Radeon HD 7970 XFX double d version and whatever else makes the name longer. Games like Far Cry 3, and most recently Battle Field 3, have started just freezing up completely, when I alt+escape out it shows that AMD driver something has stopped working and has recovered. How can I get my drivers to stop crashing constantly and ruining all my games?

update driver to beta, and then furmark

Do you have the most recent drivers? Or are you using the ones on the disk? I would go back 1 set of drivers, try those.

Sorry for super late respones, i've been busy with work/exams.. I've tried the newest beta drivers, and the ones right before that, the stable release versions, both with the same problem.. I really just hope I don;t have to RMA this card..

what size is your psu?

I had this problem back on my 6950's and it was remedied (for me anyways) by doing a compleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeete uninstall of all the old drivers. Everything amd gpu related. I use ATI man and have never had a driver issue since.

It's more than likely not the card though.

I recently tried to shoehorn a zotac something or other in this prebuilt hand me down pc. So that i could play day-z and i know the output on the generic psu was probably not enough. But i thought it might work so i gave it a go. But i would constantly get a Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered error. As far as i can tell its a mysterious error. Everyone seems to attribute it to one thing or another. I did everything everyone said to uninstalled all the drivers reinstalled them uninstalled them again used drive sweeper clean installed them. Nothing worked. The only way i got it to stop is by removing the card. Luckily newegg let me return it for store credit. Anyway having almost no knowledge of these things i would say check your PSU to make sure its giving it the needed power.
