so i have a i5-3570k and a asrock extreme6 and i tried to overclock it to 4.5. And i followed settings from a video off od youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U92PFAQ6X8Y. now i know i am probably retarded for doing this. But, i need to know if my cpu fried, i copied what he had and then i restarted the machine. It turned on for about a second then shut off. it did this 3 times before i realize that something was probably wrong so i shut it off the hit the clear cimos button on my mobo and now my computer wont turn on. please help.
Just pull out the CMOS battery. If that doesn't work then good job. You followed someone elses instructions instead of learning yourself.
Pull out the battery, and hold the power button to drain the caps. (after unpluging the system) All chips are different, you can't just copy and paste someone else's settings.
The safest way to OC is to inch up your core multiplier, booting and running prime 95 each time untill you crash when stress testing. then increase your voltage until you don't crash. Rinse and repeat untill you either get close to unsafe temps when stress testing, or you near the max safe voltage for your CPU.
Yeah it sounds like just an issue with the over clock like what happend to me with OC genie.
I just took out the CMOS battery but it wont work if you only take it out for a little bit you have to take it out for a bit.
I just left mine out for like 30 minutes and it was fine.
