So I'm on a personnel quest to learn a bit more on networking.Got to learn about TCP/IP, subnet mask, static IP/DHCP, etc. and in my research I thought it was a good idea to update my route firmware (D-LINK, DIR-655 ver. B1, firmware 2.00NA to 2.10). That's when the problems started. More precisely, it seems I can't access some websites in what seems a random way (server not found). The problem seems more severe when I game or downloading torrents. Then, it's no access at all. I tried using the pinging google.com in the command prompt got "host not found" as an error message.
I observed similar behavior when connecting to my NAS as it wil only work when I use its IP adress.
From my recent learning, I suspect a DNS server problem. It's as if it reboots randomly.
As anyone any idea how to correct the problem? I tried reverting to the original firmware without success (didn't find it).
Thanks in advance.
factory reset ur router to see if u can get back online
I have the same rougher. firmware version 1.35NA and i never had a problem. I suspect that the update did not go right and something in messed up. If you can roll back to the older firmware version to see if that will fix it. I honestly never update firmware unless i am having problems.
Here's an update.
Did what Phantom said. Also, did a factory reset and reinstalled the 2.00NA firmware. Still got some problems.
On my gaming computer, I've put a static IP and gave it directly my ISP's DNS server address. This seems to do the the trick on this particular computer BUT whenever I game online/torrent they're a moment when other computes/gf iPad stops being able to surf the internet. Resetting the router solves the problem for a couple of minutes then the service goes bad again.
Also, and this may be a separate problem, but I can't get my NAS SAMBA share to work properly. Yes my main computer sees it with its IP but not with its hostname. Same thing can be said from my XBMC rig (Raspberry Pi). On the latter, only Zeroconf works (whatever that is). I've update my NAS firmware the same day I've updated my router's firmware.
Any ideas how to solve this guys?
