I recently bought a 4770k

I bought a 4770k Bundle and currently I'm using the stock fan until my liquid cooler gets delivered to my place. I play games at times during the day and I was wondering if 50c is standard CPU temp when playing a game with the stock fan. My friend tells me that's its not safe and such. But I wanted to get some insight from you guys :)

Kai

The 'safe' upper limit is something like 80C or 90C, with an absolute max of just over 100C. 50C isn't too bad for the stock cooler.

50c on a 4770k is amazing. Some get to 70c in those conditions.

So your saying that it's alright to play a game at 50C for a limited period of time?

Yep. 50C is actually a really good temperature for the stock cooler. You should be able to play for as long as you want at a temperature like that.

My 3770 on a Corsair H50 liquid cooler stays at like 60c while gaming.. I would say for a stock cooler, thats pretty damn good lol.

It's probably because of my case lol

With temps like that on the stock cooler, you may have won the silicon lottery. The whole thing. Ever. I would love to see what kind of overclock you can get out of that CPU... with aftermarket cooling of course.

I just played some bioshock infinite and my cpu went to 60c this time so I don't think I won lol

50 degrees is very standard for an intel cpu.

So it's alright to play games with a stock fan that goes up to 50- 60C? I'm new to intel because i've always used AMD lol

Yeah its no problem ☺

Thanks :P I was worried that i'll fry my cpu LOL

Also should I update my bios to the newest version even though everything works just fine?

For bios, if it's working fine you shouldn't mess with it.

ya i have a twin rad in my system and 50c is my operating temp so whatever magic your doing, keep doing it.

Yeah, maybe not so much, hahaha. That is still a pretty good temp for the stock cooler.

I was just playing some skyrim with 200 some mods and my CPU with the stock cooler stayed around 45 - 50C WITH A STOCK COOLER!!!!

Yep, anything under 80 is perfectly fine.  90 is getting a bit toasty.  I personally have my i5 running at around 60-65c so my fan doesn't have to work so hard and be noisy.

Check my thread about my 4770. I had almost 100c on prime95 on stock cooler with bad installing (multiple times). My current cooler master hyper 212 evo never let it past 65 on that same benchmark. That's why they don't recommend it on haswell. It's not real world temps of course. I had somewhat decent temperatures in games but rendering almost got it to 80 degrees, and I don't like a noisy hot computer. This massive heatsink can run passive with the airflow I got from other 120mm fans and still have under 60, even with integrated graphics working at full load too.

If you're going to overclock this one isn't like the older processors that allowed you almost a free GHz headroom even if you didn't pick a lucky chip ON STOCK COOLING. Go at least for a cooler as good as the hyper 212 evo.
