I put together my comp but having some problems

Okay, so all the parts for my computer have arrived. And I've got everything put in the case. I must have missed something somewhere, because whenever I turn it on the monitor doesn't receive any signal, and I don't hear a beep. Could anyone list some common mistakes that might cause this problem. I'm sure it's just a simple plug or something. Thanks ahead of time.

Do you have a graphics card installed on your motherboard? If yes, make sure your video cable is plugged into you graphics card and not your motherboard.

Check if your RAM is seated correctly, even try to remove all installed RAM modules and boot with one stick installed.

Check to make sure you have the 4+4 CPU power cable plugged in along with the 20+4 cable for the motherboard, If you do have a graphics card make sure that the proper cables are plugged in, they are either 6 Pin cables or 8 Pin cables, sometimes 6+2 Pin.

Be sure that you have properly connected the Power and Reset connectors to you motherboard, will vary from board majority or set up in the same configuration.

I can't really think of anything else but those were the thing I had tried when I had problems with my first build.

I do have a graphics card. Pins are 6 + 8 though. Ram is seated properly. Motherboard power cables are all plugged in. Double checked the video card and made sure it was plugged in correctly. Reset and power connectors are correct into the motherboard.

When I boot it it still says no hdmi signal :/

  • Can you hear the hard drive spinning?
  • If your monitor has more than one HDMI input, is it set to display the right HDMI port? Stupid question, but it happens.
  • Have you checked the mother board manual and that all the appropriate connections are used? It's worth checking one by one with reference to the manual. It worked for me.

If all else fails, try removing the graphics card and plugging your monitor into your motherboard's HDMI port. See if that works. If not, you know it's not the graphics card at least.

does the motherboard even get a light when its plugged in? if not then the PSU is bad

if so, use minimal hardware, no extra drives, 1 stick of ram, etc

Okay, I do think I can hear the hard drive spinning. I double checked to make sure it was set on the right hdmi port. And I ran through the motherboard to check all the connections. But the motherboard manual is pretty much in a foreign language to me. I couldn't find a motherboard light, not sure where it would be. The motherboard I have is a Gigabyte B85M-DS3H. I would hope that it isn't the psu being bad. Everything is fresh out of the box. And all the fans on everything are coming on and spinning correctly.

Fans are running and hard drives are spinning.

Does your CPU have integrated graphics?  Can you try plugging into the motherboard instead?

I just unplugged the video card and tried running straight into the motherboard.  It didn't put out any signal. But when I plugged my monitor back into my old computer the resolution is all funny on my old computer.  :/

Okay I reset my old computer and resolution fixed itself. Still stuck on the new one though. Taking out the graphics card did not help :/

Any pictures of the inside of the computer?

I took it to a buddy who runs a PC repair shop to diagnose. He said the motherboard was bad out of the box :(
Just my luck.
