I just put in my new 980 ti graphics card, tried turning it on, Nothing.
I checked all the connections and everything is in place, I do not know what it is.
When I first tried it on the lights turned on for a second, then shut off, the fan just barely started spinning. Now every time I try to turn it on and just makes a loud "Tick" sound and again the fan barely moves.
I'm out of idea's, I have no honest clue what Is wrong. I just spent a lil over 1,000$ on this upgrade.
Updates:
Alright so i've connected my old graphics, it works fine, but the new graphics card does not want to work with this. I have tried using the 6+6=8 Adaptor that came with the thing: it didn't work. I noticed my old graphics card uses a 6+2 and 4+2 cable, so i plugged all of those into the new graphics card. Still nothing.
Is this a faulty Graphics card or am i just missing something?
Hmm, what do you mean by pins? If you mean for the power, be absolutely certain you're plugging in exactly what it requires. It's most likely a 6 pin and an 8 pin.
Put the 980ti back in make sure it is seated proper, and reinsert the two connectors, It might be that you have a dual rail power supply so you may need to use the two separate rails to power the GFX card. Just to clarify idk if this is how multi rail units work.
Ok so I put in the old one, it worked fine, now I put in the new one with the same amount of pins it comes up with an error saying "Please connect the required amount of PSU-E"
It's a step forward at least.
From what I can figure out I will need to put the 6 pins into the adaptor they gave me, hopefully that fixes the problem
Model is a Corsair RM 750w gold cert ATX power supply. I cannot find any other PSU-E cables to connect to the graphics, all I have is the one I used for my old Graphics and the adaptor that came with my new Graphics
Okay hard to tell from images, does it have two 4+2 pin cables or is it one 4+2 and a 6+2
It looks like it should have a 6+2 cable(8 pin) and a 4+2 cable(6 pin), use these and plug them into the 980ti and on the PSU they should be plugged into the ports next to the area that says 6+2 PCI-e & CPU
I tried that, i have no honest idea, I just put my old graphics card in and put it all together, I'll think about it while i sleep but my 760 only had a 8 pin PSU-E with two that were kinda detached from the cable. So i may have to go out and buy a specific psu-e for this now.
From the images I found you should not need another PSU, it should have the necessary cables with it unless you lost them. it should have a 4+2(6 pin) cable and a 6+2(8 pin) cable, it sounds like you have the 8 pin and are missing the 6 pin.
that cable is a 6+2. you can use it for either a 6 pin or 8 pin input on the gfx card. the gfx card has several inputs that all need the juice. a quick googling and i see the evga ti has 2x 8 pin and a 6 pin. every single one of those pins needs power. depending on your model, it may have more or less pins. they all still need juice. as far as rails on the psu, its a single rail so shouldn't need load balancing. do you have 10 hard drives? or many peripherals that would be taking power? try unplugging anything un needed. just mobo, boot drive, keyboard and mouse, and gfx card. if that boots, you may need a bigger supply.
afterthought that i almost don't want to mention. the card may just be DOA. and need to be replaced.
In either case read the manual. Your PSU has 4x 6+2 (8pin) PCIE power connectors (they will be labled). If they (cables) arent already attached to your PSU then check the box. & plug the required cables into it. Your 980TI (assuming reference design) requires a 6pin + a 8pin (2 of the 6+2pin cables with one minus the +2), shit only fits one way so you cant get it wrong. If you are missing a cable just use one of the molex to PCIE adapters that wouldve come in the GPU box.
