I need some help

I want to buy a new motherboard but before I do that, I need some help. On this motherboard I'm using currently, one of the ram slots does not work.
Now, my CPU: AMD Phenom X4 965 is missing some pins. It still works but I have no idea how...
Anyway, I want to know, is the CPU causing this issue or my motherboard is faulty ? Or maybe I need to update my Bios ? Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks !

Are those the 10 pins that are supposed to be missing? :) Otherwise just grounding pins so no worries. If you can update your bios then do it.

Some pins bent so I had to straighten them up. I think 4 pins broke on my CPU. So, you suggest buying a new motherboard ?
EDIT: I never tinkered with the bios so I'm afraid of screwing something up.

Can you supply a full spec list of components please.

AMD Phenom X4 965 stock clock.
Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P
Corsair 4 GB 1x4
Sapphire HD 7750
WD 500
CX 430 WATT bronze non-modular.

That mobo has dual bios, If you mess it up you can just switch it right? If that is the issue... I dont see anything about ram on the bios description but then again it's not always listed.
Have you checked for pin debris in the ram slot?
Are your ram sticks the same kit?

Yes, they are the same model, Corsair Vengence 4 GB sticks. I did not checked the RAM slot for pin debris. I'm gonna try to clean the RAM slot and if that does not work, I'll try to flash the bios. But that leaves me with the CPU. It could be because of those 4 missing pins. So the memory controller could be screwed up.

I tried cleaning the RAM slot. Didnt work. I tried flashing the bios to the newest version, still doesnt work. So the only thing that could be is, the CPU or the motherboard.

Are the ram sticks the same revision? 2.1, 2.0 whatever. Corsair Vengeance might have to be from the same kit.
But then again if both slots are the same colour and you've tried a single stick in the non working slot then mis-matched ram wouldn't be an issue.

well if some pins of the cpu are broken,
then i would recommend to do a cpu + motherboard upgrade.
Its not realy worth it, to invest more money into a dead platform without any potentional anymore.

I tried putting the new RAM stick into the working RAM slot. It worked. So I know that the stick works. I checked the label on both RAM sticks, they are the same. The only difference that one stick has a blue heatsink and the other one is black. They didnt have the blue one in stock.

The CPU works even tho its missing few pins. I would gladly buy a 1150 platform but I'm on a very tight budget and I would gladly use this RAM stick that is sitting for almost 2 months on my shelf.

you could always sell the snazzy corsair and buy a single 8gb budget orientated ram stick, I haven't looked to see if that's possible with your board.
