I need some help on a tight budget build

As a console gamer, I'm getting tired of spending $60 on games for my Xbox 360, and I also hate waiting a year or two for the price to come down. Therefore, I've decided to skip buying one of the new consoles, and just build myself a PC. Problem is, I don't have a whole lot of money, only about $400-$415. Although that isn't a lot, I don't plan on playing a lot of graphically intense games. Mainly games like TF2, MineCraft, Valve and Steam games, possibly stuff like Saints Row IV and maybe CoD. Also, I don't mind playing on lower settings, as long as I get good FPS. And so, here's the rundown:

  • Budget: $400, maximum is $415
  • Country: U.S.A
  • Is there a retailer you prefer: Nope, I don't mind buying from any site.
  • Do you need peripherals: I already have a monitor.
  • What will you be using you computer for: Gaming and Internet surfing.
  • Do you overclock or want to get into overclocking: Probably not.
  • Do you plan on going for custom watercooling now, or in the future: Doubt it.
  • OS. Do you need a new one: Nope.
  • What kind of settings do you like or what FPS do you want to play at: I like higher FPS of course, and I don't mind lower settings to achieve them.
  • What resolution will you be playing at: 1080 or 720.
  • What kind of games do you like to play: Valve and Steam games, open-world type games, first person shooters.
  • What specific game will you be playing: TF2, L4D2, MineCraft, various CoD's, Just Cause 2, GTA.

So that's what I need. I that for what I need, this can be done. However, I am no expert, and that's why I need you guys to help me out. Thanks so much in advance, and just tell me if you need more info.

Those games should run fine on this. You can upgrade the GPU to something middle-tier, the system will handle it.

looks good but get the 1tb caviar blue for $5 more

Awesome! A quick question: I can't get a wired connection, so will I need a WiFi adapter to connect?

I didn't even look to see. Very appropriate suggestion

You can use a wireless network card on one of the available PCIe slots. They're pretty inexpensive. Then you can upgrade the graphics card to something like a 7870, or whatever is available in the future. The 7770GHz should play any game, in the meantime.

Great! Actually, I have a usb wifi adapter for my xbox. Would that work?

no, i tried that on my laptop and it did not work. the drivers for that device are on the xbox 360 and you cannot get them from windows update etc.

Are you running Win8?

I had to jump through hoops to get my 360 controller working on my PC. It is entirely possibly to get other Xbox products working. However, they might not shown in device manager, it is a headache getting the correct drivers and updates on Win8.

Alright, it seems a new WiFi adapter isn't that much anyway. I have another copy of Windows 7 I plan on using for the time being.

anyone have a recommendation?

ASUS PCE-N53, possibly.
