My headphones just crapped out on me so I need to get new ones but I have no clue what to get.
I use headphones for extended periods of time so they need to be super comfortable.
Also, I need my ears inside the ear cups (like, not having the ear cups resting on my ear lobe).
I use them for both gaming and listening to music.
I like a stronger bass response.
I have a separate mic so it's ok if I get a headset with a built in mic but it's even better without another cable hanging around which I won't use.
I have a 250euro budget.
I am not an audio snob. I have no amps/dacs and I use on-board audio. I have a friend with an Asus external audio thing. It's some ridiculously expensive thing and I can't tell any difference from my on-board Creative sound blaster.
For reference, I have used my current headphones for over 6 years and I loved them to death but the right speaker died today. They were Technics RP-F600.
I actually found beyerdynamic Custom One Pro on sale for about 160euros. The specs look good. Does anyone own a pair of these and can tell me how they handle gaming??
When it comes to gaming and bass I feel like you are stuck. I love a bigger sound stage for gaming, but open back head phones aren't usually that bass heavy. I think you might have to either go with some open back head phones and sacrifice bass, closed back and not have as big of a sound stage, or semi open and get a little bit of both. If you go with Semi Open I would go for the SuperLux 668B, Logan has a review of them, and get a cheap DAC so you are getting more bass than just from your MOBO. I recommend the FiiO Olympus E10, grab it and flip the bass boost on and you are good to go, you get a nice semi open sound stage and good bass, this is the setup I am running. If you feel intimidated by a DAC, don't be, you litterally just plug it into the back of your PC, switch the default output on windows (you can easily do this, google is your friend) and plug in your headphones.
music sounds awsome with those. they have a bass switch for the bass level, but the second level is really the only usable one. the first is nearly no bass at all, the third is already very heavy bass (good for gaming if you like boomy 'plosions)
i played a few times with them, you can hear if the enemy is behind or in front of you, but its not the best directional sound. like walrus said, if you need a better soundstage, you need open headphones. like the dt 990 or 880.
the sound is very analytical on the second setting, so no extreme highs, mids or lows. its all very even.
the build quality is also very good.
they have very low impedance, so you wont need an amp. i tried them on onboard sound and mobile (HTC Sensation without the beats crap) and they sound very well on both. i also tried a Xonar DX soundcard and there is no difference to the onboard sound. i dont have a dac/amp to try if they benefit from them but they already sound good on onboard.
If you're after comfort and having them on for extended periods of time I'd have to bet all my money on Steelseries, the Siberias, any of them would do really they'reas comfortable as it can get if you ask me.
I had the V2 for two years til the mic-cord broke or something so I gave them to my fiancé, they still work great for just listening and she loves them and she's not even a gamer :P
Well the i dont have all that much experience but i must recommend the Sennheiser HD419's or HD429's. I have the 419's and they are the best sounding and most comfortable headphones i have ever used. Bass is tight and pretty accurate so they might not be what you want. I use them for everything, music, gaming, movies, TV, youtube videos, really just everything. Im sure there are much better headphones out there but for $40 it doesnt get any better!
