Hello, I recently noticed that, well, for lack of better words, my internet sucks. I live in Illinois and my isp is Xfinity/Comcast. My supposed mb/s is 30. According to speedtest.net my computer receives 24ms of ping, 8.87 mb/s down, and 5.43 mb/s up. I am connected to my internet via WIFI. I have a Linksys WRT54GL wireless-G router. Is there a way that I can speed up my internet? what is the best way to increase my speed?
Ethernet cable.
As william said, use an Ethernet cable. Also, have you tried using a number of servers on speedtest.net? Using one server may not greatly represent your performance. Also, it's really better to start from inside your network, and work outwards; run a continuous ping to your default gateway, and then try testing latency to hosts outside your network (My Traceroute is very good for this).
