Ugh, I feel your frustration! It sounds like you’re having a tough time with technology. Let’s break down your post into smaller problems so we can tackle them one by one.
“Cannot go to Linux , all I know is Windows for over 20.”
Linux isn’t Windows or Mac; it’s its own thing! If you don’t know it, you’ll need to learn . You mention 20 years on Windows—that puts you in your 30s, right? I bet you can still learn new things pretty quickly. Linux isn’t that different. Once you grasp the basic differences, you’ll intuit the rest easily, and I guarantee you’ll be thinking “I done it wrong for so long?”
“I cannot stand the lack of instructions and help or direction.”
Sorry to hear you haven’t found the help you need. I always managed to find what I was looking for. Maybe some distros are better than others? Google searches aren’t quite what they ben, or maybe you’re not asking in the right way (remember, be polite! No one gets paid to help you, and being angry won’t get you anywhere).
“Windows doesn’t let you just be a personal computer user”
I feel you! Windows is bloated with stuff I think is designed to mess with you. That’s why I ditched it years ago when XP became end of life. I haven’t had Windows on any of my machines, even at work :smirk. You’re doing the right thing; you’ll be glad you made the switch soon!
"Crap Windows optimizations”
Windows doesn’t get optimized; it gets slower. It feels like a malicious way to force you to buy new hardware from Microsoft partners and more tracking slows things down further.
“Some pathetic 5-50GB limit”
Here’s a secret shushing face Business broadband doesn’t have those limits! You might need to be creative when signing up . I don’t know where you are in the world, but here in the UK, it’s often cheaper to be self-employed and get faster speeds with out artificial limits. Plus, you usually get business-class hardware, which is way better.
“Linux is retarded because it’s been 20 years and they have gotten absolutely nowhere basically(that’s why people distro hop)”
I don’t even know where to start with this . That’s just not true! Linux desktops are at a point where 90% of PC users could do 99% of their tasks on it. They don’t because they don’t want to change, and learning something new can be tough (that’s what you’re experiencing right now!).
Remember, Linux is the kernel—the underlying plumbing. Distros are just different preconfigured sets of software on top of it. People distro hop because they can! Try distro hopping on Windows . It’s mostly about exploration or looking for better hardware or software support that comes with newer kernels. It sounds like games are important to you; I’d recommend a distro designed for gamers. Look for something based on Fedora or Arch you need something bleeding edge for your new hardware.
“They need to scrap windows, scrap unix, get rid of all that bullshit and make a real god damn personal desktop computer.”
It’s already here! Check out TempleOS Terry with good help made it so close to bear metal that games have no latency at all . @deimosian
“Corporations and government, do me a favor and SHOVE IT.”
+1 brother.
P.S.: PopOS is not updated much. System76 is busy working on a shiny new desktop—very exciting.
