The problem with that is actually very simple. No one has the right answer to every scenario. As such, it is borderline impossible to have always the best person assigned to make decision on a certain topic (for those who place hat someone in power also could not make the right decision).
Oh and what do scientific facts mean to you? evidence by itself doesn't always tell the story. Interpretation is needed, hence why scientific consensus is needed. And even then it is not enough. it took a while for quantum mechanics to be accepted.
Some scientists argue that we have reached the point of no return in terms of man made climate change. As such, international policies that harm the free market wouldn't amount to any change in the environment while innovation would be staggered. Innovation that could very well unintentionally lead to a revolution in the way we obtain energy. If this scenario comes true would you accept your punishment?

I am not asking to read a science text book as a bible. I always want people to question our world and make new discoveries.
I am specifically talking about idiots like this guy. This right here should be illegal. If you are willfully ignoring the evidence of global warming and then actually block funds for solving the problem, then you are contributing it it.
The only thing I believe is that if it is made illegal to hide irrefutable proof of things. Global warming,, tobbaco, etc. They should be jailed. That is if it is made illegal.
People aren't denying the climate is changing. The question is how much are people involved in the global change and how bad it is. People are skeptical because the groups that put out numbers are being caught faking shit shut and lying and just about all are infected by politics.
Why would you believe numbers that could be wrong and by people who have an obvious stake in it. Both sides stand to gain pretty much everything they could imagine by winning the argument and for you to think 1 side is being completely honest is laughable.
This isn't politicians and evil GOP vs. Science. This is people like Bill Nye versus common sense thought processes. If you doubt the climate is changing yes you are an idiot that is undeniable.
But to say they should be either JAILED or fined for being SKEPTICAL is fucking insane.

That would be, outlawing idiocy. Dunno if it is the right thing. In a democracy we must tolerate those who were elected. The best way to deal with this situation is prevention. The public needs to be educated, however Bill Nye is doing it the wrong way. He speaks in an authoritarian way without laying out the evidence in a form of an argument.
Then we have the situation were some people claim that the things that determine our personality (witch is something that can change all the time depending on events/nutrition/disease) are linked to the word that has historically used to indicate the biological sex. Biolinguist basically took the aspects that make our personality and preferences and made that into a gender somehow...which makes no sense! You can either be born with a clearly defined working set of genitals, or you are regrettably defective for reproduction purposes. What you choose to make with your set of equipment is your own choice witch can be influenced by a number of factors, including biological factors, hormone imbalance, etc. But what you choose to do with your body, or your own preferences do not change the set of equipment you were born with. That's why have trans genders, in which someone prefers/ more closely identifies with the other gender. Now they claim there is a spectrum, well if there is one, it must be possible to define certain areas of that spectrum. So far those areas have been characterized by people's subjective desires or by some exotic word some teenager read on tumbler. There is no scientific way to measure a "spectrum of genders", what there is is a way to determine your natural set of equipment. And hormone imbalances do not make you suddenly grow a penis/ vagina as it is biologically impossible to do so.

tbh i don't think people should be trying to slip things under the no politics radar by posting in random categories. this isn't a Blog post at all, there was just no "social commentary" category, because we don't need one. i don't think it was done maliciously, but here we have yet another thread that's probably going to be locked because the few people that have been civil have said their bits and moved on, while the rest is one-upism and pseudo-political banter. which we don't need. and quite frankly, i'm speaking for myself when i say i don't want it, either. all day long we're bombarded with how political every aspect of online life has become, and i come here to be silly in the Lounge and maybe have a moan about Linux. it's relaxing, because there's not supposed to be any of this wanking about HURR DURR UR SIDE SUKS bullshit, unless it's done in JOKES, which everyone recognises ARE jokes, and nobody's actually taking it seriously.
