i installed LXDE just from sudo apt-get install lxde and when I log out there is no icon to change enviroment
Does Ubuntu have the option hudden under either a canonical circle, or a white stick figure on the login box?
You might need to install/enable a different LOGIN screen? I know some of the basic Gnome ones no longer sport the option to change window environments.
I thought Ubuntu had flavours like lubuntu (lxde), kubuntu (kde) etc would it not be easier to install the latest lubuntu release since it has all of the dependencies etc ?
From "main" ubuntu you need to install meta-packages that add all the secret sauce to get the different DEs
i.e:
sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop
will install LXDE, session manager, WM, etc.
Gnome-shell: ubuntu-gnome-desktop
KDE: kubuntu-desktop
LXDE: lubuntu-desktop
XFCE: xubuntu-desktop
What @Willdrick will help.
Also, to change DEs you have to log out and there's a gear to change DEs
Here's is a quick how to guide
