I have no idea what im looking for

so im building my first rig by myself. ive assembled them before but each time someone else has picked out the parts. and for each part ive paid a lot of attention to what im looking for and why. except the mobo. with the mobo i have no idea what im looking for except CPU socket type and max RAM...and size as well. right now im getting the one included in http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1033223 which is fine (or so ive been told) truthfully since i dont know what im looing for i dont know what i do and do not have.

hell i dont even know what type of onboard sound it has. (it says 8.1 but i have no clue if thats really good)

Well you got to look at what features you will be using. Does you case have front USB 3.0? Does it use an internal usb 3.0 header? If so get a Mobo with a USB 3.0 header in front. How many SATA III ports does it have? How many SATA III drives do I have to use? How many graphics cards will I put in it? Does it have good power delivery for overclocking? Whats the warranty? Does it have built in wifi or bluetooth? Will I use SSD Caching with my HDD?   Just the questions you gotta ask yourself and then do some research or post on forums like this about what your looking to do with your computer

k cool sweet deal . thanks

As I went over the stats on this motherboard you have picked out, you really have most things covered with this choice. You have a PCI Express 3.0 X 16 for a single graphics card as well as PCI Express 2.0 X 16 1@4 if you plan on 2 cards. By using the Ivy Bridge processor you have access to the third PCI slot too. You have 6 Sata connections with 2 at 6Gb/s and 4 @ 3Gb/s. If you intend to use an SSD you would of course install it in the 6Gb/s and your HDD in the other. Things like your optical drive can go in the 3Gb/s sata connections. The board stats say the Onboard Video Chipset is supported only by CPU with integrated graphic. When I checked the CPU it says the Integrated Graphics are Intel HD Graphics 4000. Although the graphics would not be the greatest at least you would have graphics until you decide which card you would like to add to this system. There are plenty of USB 2.0 as well as 3.0 connectors in your I/O. There is a USB 3.0 connector on the motherboard should you get a case with front 3.0 connectors. Overall I think you have picked a great pairing with this board and CPU. This is a standard ATX format board so any midsize to full size case will handle it. Your case is so important in any build. Get one that you can look at everyday and has excellent air flow. Heat is the killer of all computers. I see the Egg has a video on this board too. In my opinion you are off to a great start. Let the people here know what your next move is and we will be all more than willing to throw our advice your way. This is a good bunch of people here. All the best and as always, just my opinion.

thanks a ton that was a lot more information than i origionally hoped to get. if youd like to check otu the entire build its posted here. (http://teksyndicate.com/forum/build-pc/one-final-runthrough-i-buy/124760)

I see if you purchase the motherboard separately you get Patriot Viper 3 8GB in a 2X4 configuration. I would check if you still get the free RAM by purchasing the bundle. If you do then go the extra mile and get another set to have 16GB of RAM. The graphics card you have chosen states a minimum of 500W. I would go to a 750W as this will give you a little room for any expansion and not leave your power supply maxing out all the time. The case is a very interesting design. I like the 2 80mm side fans for cooling the HDD compartments. As heat naturally rises, the top 120mm fan is very important these days. The only thing I see is the 2 USB 3.0 case “sockets’ have to be wired through the back of the case to hook into the 3.0 inputs on your I/O. I am trying to say it does not hook up to the 20 pin socket on the motherboard. Not a real big deal but I just thought I would point it out. From what I hear the i7 produces quite a bit of heat. I would upgrade your CPU cooler to the Cooler Master V6. I have included the Newegg link so you can see what I mean.

Overall I myself think you have a nice little system in mind. NOW that having been said, please get others on this site to go over what you have. I am no expert but I have built a few computers so I am not a total rookie either. As the saying goes, knowledge is power and the more input you get from the good people on this website the better for you.  I have also included the link to my last build so you can see why I have given you some of the advice that I have. All the very best with your build and don’t forget you will need an operating system!

wow thats a pretty sweet build you got.i gotta say that V6 deffinately looks really good especially considering that usually all you see in that spot is a big ugly iron block

ya ive heard that about i7's as well but ive also heard that i5's dont share that problem which is part of the reason why i dropped to an i5. (that and to save some cash)

well unfortunately i really cant make any upgrades unless its  necessary or will keep the price relatively similar.

ya you do get the free RAM with the bundle.
