Yesterday I got a CPU from the "new" Circuit City.com I put it in my machine and it exploded. (Well only a pin)
See the black pin?
When I try and get a refund I'm told I need to pay them extra for some kind of deposit on the next CPU to replace the defective one before there willing to send another one out.
So now I know and will never buy anything from them again.
New Circuit City
You're pretty much screwed there. Should've done some research on them IMO
Also, what motherboard you got there in that picture?

That sucks i wouldn't trust circuit city i dont think i'd buy parts especially a cpu from anyone but newegg or tigerdirect
....
Circuit City is owned by Systemax, which also owns TigerDirect, and CompUSA. Please, learn your businesses. haha
Yeah, it's the same as TG, so it shouldn't be a big deal, the seem to be acting like dicks though...
i'm pretty sure what there doing is illegal anyways
but i would know the law other than here really
Well I'm done dealing with them, forever. Maybe I will have more luck with AMD in trying to get a replacement.Â
Someone asked so the motherboard is a MCP61PM-HM.
While we are on the topic dose anyone know if their is a way to repair/replace the pin holders in a CPU socket? I managed to get the cover off the AM2 socket but the pin holders are really small and hard to get at. Fortunately it's only one of them that is broken and it's right on the side so it's easier to access then most. I already cut away at part of the plastic to get a better look at it the damage, but if anyone has ever done this before I could really use the advice.
I got some solder and a soldering tool, but it looks like I need to replace the copper pin holder... maybe I can get one from a non functional motherboard.
What you're doing will probably void any warranty you have left, just ask Asus, or AMD for support, don't try to fix your CPU....
This.Â
I actually want you to go back, and return the soldering kit.
Also, did it like, literally explode? Or was it human error?
it maybe owned by same company but it doesnt mean they have the same policies/customer service
Actually, Circuit City, TigerDirect, and CompUSA are all dictated by Systemax, although their individual customer support teams may differ, they still run similar policies on returns, RMA's, and exchanges.
well actually yes i know that but ive never heard of this problem with tigerdirectplus circuit city was a company that went out of business that not somewhere id spend my dollhairs
Yeah I know, that's why I think he just needs to explain the problem to them. I'm sure they'll replace it. I'm sure they won't replace it if he tries to solder the pin back on.
