Moto X with Trident case.
Useful apps?
Need-to-knows?
Cool tricks?
The moto x is a solid phone. First I would install some sort of anti virus. You don't really need one but its nice to have one anyway. Adblockplus is another good app to install. It only works with wifi non rooted but it will work with all networks if your rooted. Towel Root works well if your on 4.4.2. If your concerned with privacy you should turn off the "ok google" search hot word option. I use weather bug as a weather app and Swiftkey as a keyboard. I don't know how comfortable you are with messing around with custom roms but XDA forums is a great place to go for that.
You can twist the phone twice to activate the camera, double tap a webpage and slide your finger up or down to zoom in or out, Use widgets like soundcloud or the weather channel, I don't recommend any other apps besides F.lux, ifunny, steam, Paypal, CPUz, and other utilities. Reading books on this isn't terrible, Turn NFC on if you're that kind of person, use Motorola assist as much as possible,Only use the speaker if absolutely needed. Also get some games, download reddit is fun, Newegg, and amazon. It's my first smartphone too and I still haven't found everything there is to find.
I never laughed on anything posted on ifunny. The only people that i know oh go on it are the hoods at school.
Oh hey, I have one as well! I find "Advanced Task Manager" to help with stretching the battery life. Also, there is a widget that comes with the phone that allows you to turn off/on Bluetooth, WiFi, location, as well as change the screen brightness. Due to my not-so-great ear buds I tend to use an equalizer app. The Weather Channel app comes in handy. Hill climb racing is a fun game to waste some time on. I recommend you get a camera app that has options for exposure and such, as the camera app that it comes with does not always do things right.
Not sure if the case comes with one, but a screen protector is always handy.
I almost forgot, you should download ES file explorer.
Whenever I get a new phone the first apps I always download are: some kind of cloud service (Google Drive for me), Flow for android (My favorite Reddit client), Falcon Pro (My favorite Twitter Client), Imgur, and a better kind of music player (I use Doubletwist but Poweramp is a bit better). I also put on the Amazon Appstore because they give away free apps every day, as well as have really good deals on others (I got Plex for free).
If you're cool with some "scary stuff," you should root, flash a custom recovery, and put on a custom rom. My favorites would have to be Cyanogenmod and AOKP. Cyanogenmod is super customizable and they both help with memory and battery life.
Finally, if you root and put a custom recovery on, you should totally switch from Dalvik to ART. You'll find there are apps for system modification (like Xposed Installer) that won't work, but I've found my battery life increased a bit more and everything runs a bit smoother than it already did.
Welcome to the Smartphone world, friend!
Oh my god I'm just now reading these because it doesn't notify you via email when there's activity on one of your threads. (=_=)
