Hi all! my first post on the level one forum.
I just finished building this home made router using a Dell Wyse 5060 terminal (Quad core AMD GX-424 2.4GHz) - I added 16GB DDR3, 240GB SSD, and an additional m.2 gigabit Ethernet adaptor.
This was very cheap (under $100 equivalent) and I’m very pleased so far. The NIC’s are both the same Realtek chipset, I hear there are issues??

pretty standard set up, glad your happy with it.

realtek is known for having less performance when compared to any other network chipset. some specific realtek chipsets have driver issues, but if yours is working, it should be fine.

Cool!
What will you be running? OpenWRT, pfSense, VyOS some general purpose Linux or BSD? router7? LFS?

Thanks that’s really useful info. I’m running Pfsense CE and it’s running well so I guess I shouldn’t worry.
It’s significantly faster than my old all in one router/wifiAP and I no longer have to run Pihole on the machine that hosts my VM’s (Wife is happy the internet stays on when I reboot my PC haha)
