I have a system now http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/Dt6wMp but want to upgrade for vr and have made two builds but can't decide which one and I will be putting a gpu when nvidia drops its gpus in june sometime.
Build 1: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/YngWMp
Build 2: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/2Pms6h
Thanks in advance
I'm also in AUS
Well, the only thing you need is basically R9 Fury:

And you are set... No need to change the CPU or the platform or anything... Just get yourself a fury and you are set...
Honestly, i'd keep your current system and put as much as you can into a GPU.
On which build but or on my current system
Your current system is quite good. No need to change anything, but the GPU...
You have a choice actually...
You can wait for R9 Pro Duo or whatever in a month, that will be basically two Fury cards on one card. 1400 US $...
Other option is to get the Fury, that i offered.
The last option is to wait. In July Nvidia will show Pascal, and rumor has it, that at that time AMD will show up Polaris (490) as well. And the next gen will become current gen.
But there is no real need to change anything else, but the GPU...
Yeah I was kinda thinking as I will only get vr in august
I could possibly drop money on the high end gpu (pascal) and then build a decent build around that in christmas
I would not jump on that. Nvidia is kind of pooping themselves at DX12... And i mean massively...
I would wait for both manufacturers, a couple of driver revisions, etc... Then i would buy...
As for a new build - your CPU is fine. Skylake build will; not give you much of a performance increase, so it is pointless to throw money on it.
I was looking at an upgradable system I could drop in my GTX 770 sc and make a htpc in future
Neither would be significantly faster for VR, especially if you've overclocked your CPU, as skylake only has a 5% higher IPC
Also really nothing can properly power VR, just wait for the new GPUs to come out in a few months.
But ya if you wanted to upgrade now you'd probably want to grab a 390 and just save the rest of your money.
far as the next GPUs go, wait to see if pascal properly supports DX12, also you're going to save some cash on a free-sync vs G-sync display going with AMD naturally.
So pretty much I shouldn't upgrade now and use my system now as a normal pc move it to a htpc and get a $2500+ pc at christmas
Btw my monitors are 60hz so tit only matters for vr
Or just get a 390 for a while
I have a feeling, that OP doesn't want to go with AMD.
Even if the 390 is better in nearly every way compared to the 970?
Like many others have already said keep your current rig. I have no idea why people are fapping over skylake so damn much when you already have a 4670k... you won't see much of an improvement with skylake (unless of course you go i7...) I recommend you go with an fury or wait until the new cards launch. I will recommend AMD over Nvidia because Nvidia has been known to drop support for older generations (i.e. 7xx series). Also AMD has better dx12 support right now (thanks to dx12 having many elements of mantle integrated). Furthermore, freesync is a minimum of $100 cheaper than Gsync.
Not a single response in this thread has advocated him changing to Skylake.
I was referring to other areas in which I've seen it... not this thread.
