Ik this is super strange but im looking for an operating system that functions similarly to google drive, because i already have pretty much all of the parts to build a well over 200tb nas but the company i work for all of our clients and most of the people who will need access to the drive are external and vpns arent really an option, will use if its a must, but i would prefer just a os that i can access the storage of which from anywhere, for example, lets say i need a recording of something and im on site and i have my laptop, i open it and use some software or a web domain and log in and then i can grab the file if that makes sense, basically an operating system that does what google drive does, even a bit worse is fine as long as its easy and nearly fool proof to be able to access it from anywhere by anyone with a basic guest login thats read only for specific folders, i dont know if i made sense at all, im bad at taking my ideas from mind/speech to text, if anyone can figure out what im talking about and has any ideas id be very grateful, if its not possible, i have backups, but a streamlined os as described would be ideal. Thanks in advance.
So you want a web UI for file access? There’s a million of those…
Thank you so much! but i still am struggling to understand how i would use the ui on say something like a truenas/unraid based server? or would i need to just run windows server (which is fine ig but i would like some better raid control), to clarify im looking at RichFileManager
Nextclouds mission is to literally replace Googles web suite. You can run it in TruNAS Scale or the way I would recommend is just run Debian + ZFS + Nextcloud-AIO
Also it has a office suite plugin so people can edit documents without donloading and reuploading just like google docs.
ty so much i will try this once i get the chassis for the server, thanks!
I use it for my small business and it has worked perfectly fine. Every feature they support has worked great for me.
