Hypervisors, KVMs, and leaving Windows 8.1

So as I said in this thread, I'v been learning about KVMs. Ohhhhh man are they awesome. I tested different software like Xen, Docker, Vsphere, and KVM. At some point in my research, (about 1/1/16) I remembered my vow to get off Windows 8.1 (for gaming). At first, I wanted to implement Arch Linux with a windows VM--basically, what @wendell did in this video. I'v now decided when I get my PowerEdge server (T620 or T420 idk), I'm going to implement it as my workstation. That is, assuming that the hardware is decent enough. Anyways here's my plan to build it.

I'd like to deploy the system with OpenStack, but I don't want to bight off more than I can chew. I'll try to learn it before my server arrives. If I don't, then I'l just use unRAID. UnRAID is a combination of Xen, Docker, and KVM wrapped up in a pretty bow and a nice webUI.

Openstack
I haven't learned enough of OpenStack to fully plan it out but, heirs what I have so far. The first obstacle is choosing a Hypervisor. I'm really tempted to go with Hyper-V or ESX because of some prior experience, but I'v chosen to go with KVM. I'v chosen KVM because my theme for this build is opensource. The next problem is storage. I'd like to be running btrfs, but openstack's web sight says that they support NFS, GlusterFS, MooseFS, and Lustre. I don't even know what type of storage I'm going to be running. The server will probably be running some SAS drives connected to the motherboard. You never know with used servers. (When I got my PowerEdge 1800 server, the guy told me he had to use a raid card because the motherboard's SCSI was broken. Later while installing Windows Server 2012 R2, I plugged it in and it worked! Now I have this as a souvenir.)

The rest is still up in the air, I'l haft to do more research.

unRAID
If OpenStack is too complicated for me, then I'l fall back to unRAID. Its simple enough and theirs not much more I need to learn, If this is the case, I'l be going off of this guide.

Wish me luck, I'l update when I get the server.

This seems neat, good luck! I too have made the vow so I'd love to see the results as I'm considering a similar setup with some cheap 12 core opteron hardware.
