Few days a ago I've started experiencing something weird in IE. I keep getting "There is a problem with this website’s security certificate " when I go to certain encrypted websites. For example I can't go to https://craigslist.com but I can to go https://amazon.com without seeing the error. I can go all the websites using Firefox.
Another side effect is that some Inline Images with Data URLs don't show up in IE.
I've tried uninstalling IE11, reset all the settings in the settings including the advanced section, and checked the time and date on my computer. None of those are it.
The only recent changes I can remember is downloading jdownloader 2 and unregistering some missing dll using RegDllView from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/registered_dll_view.html. It's possible I unregistered an important dll but I compared the list of registered dll with two computers and looks like nothing important is missing on my computer. I'm pretty confident its not a virus or spyware.
I'm looking for ideas to try now. Bing and google haven't been much help.
I second that...HTTPS is not the only thing that is broken in IE. Better use Firefox or chromium at least.
That being said maybe you can try the ¨https everywhere¨ plugin to get to do the secure connection. Maybe it will override the IE settings that create the issue?
I've looked at your issue, and I assume you are using Windows 7... Microsoft is urging users to Upgrade the OS or disable features like SSL 2.0 or HTTPS everywhere. I don't want to be rude, but unless you are using specific applications that run on IE11, PLEASE do yourself a favor and get another browser. Plenty to choose from and far safer to use at the moment. Unless you plan to upgrade to another Windows version, to which you'll be pushed to MS Edge.
PS: If you do a search, there are numerous issues with IE11 that probably wont be patched due to computability with an older OS, like Win7 . Places like Sophos (security) and even Microsoft's forums are riddled with these problems 'Whats broken in IE11' you can get Firefox and add HTTPS Everywhere plugin and others like NoScript to help keep you safe
