Hi all
Is it possible to use SFP to RJ45 1G modules such as FS/SFP-GE-T with a Intel E810-XXVDA2?
Another option is DAC-cables, such as FS/SFP-1G-PC005 or FS/SFP-10G-PC01.
Will the 10G DAC-cable run at 1G speeds? Will the 1G cable run at 10G speeds?
The switch-side is currently only 1G.
As to why I’m wondering:
I’m currently working on the final spec for my works new non-critical VM server. I’ve decided on a HP DL385 Gen11 as the specs and platform seems to fit our needs well.
We currently do not have any multi-gig or 10/25G infrastructure, but plan to upgrade some parts to 10G later this year. This is the reason I’m considering the E810 over the other available NICs, such as the Intel I350 (which seems to not work very well with Linux?).
From HPEs datasheet: (no mention of 1G)
From Intels datasheet:
Data rate supports 1G but physical layer does not? I’m guessing I’m reading this wrong.
I’m all new the world of SFP modules and fibre.
Thanks.
