HP Elitebook 1040 G3 WWAN issues

I have recently acquired a HP Elitebook 1040 G3, this is the mid range model with an i5 6300U and 1080p screen. I require my laptop to have mobile data as I am always on the move and a trustworthy wireless network can not always been found. I would resort to hot spotting with my phone but I would not be able to make it through a whole day on the battery then.

I ordered a Huawei WWAN card (ME906E to be exact) and installed it but the HP BIOS says that the module is not on their supported list which I find to be quite rude as I got this module for $50 while HP wanted to sell me one with the exact same up/down speeds for $500 which is outrageous.

After this message comes up it switches off the WWAN port at BIOS level so I can't install drivers or even see the device is installed.

If anyone could help me bypass this it would be a great help :)

Also if Wendell reads this I'm loving the new content :)

I know I’m bumping a really old thread, but still. Did you manage to solve this?
