what will you be using it for?

Some games, some DVD ripping, some word processing etc. and some virtual machines.

Are you sure you would not want to throw your OS onto an SSD? It really is a nice feature to add.

I know, but they tend to be quite expensive, and don't have a lot of space.  I could get a small one in addition to the hard drive, but then I'd be going outside my budget of $1000.  I'd have to cut down on something, and I'm not willing to do that.
