I'm building a computer for a friend with a max budget of £600 for everything except an os and I just need some feedback from you guys, Im open to intel build changes and amd/nvidia. This is just the best computer I think I can build for the price. I dont think he needs a monster motherboard but I am going to eventually overclock the cpu for him (nothing extreme, just a nice oc) and maybe the gpu, so if that board will blow do you guys know of any better ones for the same or less money? Also I am torn between the 670 and an msi 7950 oc be that is around the same cost wise on overclockers.co.uk. I have an msi 7950 be so it would be easier for me to oc for him plus 3 free games but I think the fans are a bit on the loud side so im swaying to the 670 for its sweet price and factory oc.
Just droped it to a 660ti which is still a great card I have one and its great card I also put in a wireless adapter that will fit with the video card and a keyboard and mouse
Looks like a good build, but you have to shave of a few pounds and add a cooler http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/1ycnx
+case = 600
You can get the cpu well over 4 ghz with the 212, ram was 13 pounds cheaper.
The 7870 XT doesnt have a 7870 chip but a tahity gpu, it only has 2 gb vram, sucks a bit more power on full load but otherwise performs very similar to a 7950.
Maybe you rip a dvd drive from a pc that lies forgotten in some cellar and get a 7950/670
thanks for the suggestion ragingh4vok but that mouse seems a tad expensive, I was thinking of around a 10r for the keyboard and the same for the mouse. Yea I was looking at the 660tis but theres a 670 for 5 quid more on scan so I think it may be worth going for.
Rolling Potatoe, will the stock fan not do for now, just so I dont have to reduce the gpu power? I was going to get the 7870 le or 660ti but I have heard bad things about xfx and their cooler? Im sure my friend has an old pc somewhere so I could rip the cd drive from that and save a 10r thanks. I guess its only needed to install windows really now :)
Although should I swap to this for the gpu if I can stay in budget or stick with the 670? I have a 7950(1150 core, 1575 mem), its great and I have heard they oc better but the 670 is a nice card too!
670s and 7950 pretty much trade blows when overclocked depending on the game, if you care about the free games + 7950, if you care about gpu physx and adaptive vsinc + 670. Just stick with a nice version of either card that fits in the budged (if a 7950 preferably not a boost edition since it can be hard to stop them from changing the clockspeed under load). XFX makes nice stuff btw.
The stock cooler will do fine for stock, since you want to oc anyway and a suitable cooler is only 20 pounds i thought you might want to save yourself the hassle of taking the pc apart a month from now.
If you get a old dvd drive and some 2x4 gb ram for 37 pounds a cooler + 7950/670 should work with the budged.Just get a cheap, reliable mouse/keyboard combo with that. Peripheral are very subjective and your friend can always just get something else later if he found something that he liked.
Thanks for the info guys, I went with your mouse/keyboard combo and the wireless. Ended up with the zotac 670 amp and about 30 quid over budget but a slightly better mobo went in.
I got this to save some money but now Im afraid I may have made a mistake and should have stuck to the corsair, it does have good reviews but I didnt realise it has dual 12v rails and a single 12v rail is a better option. Would it be ok?
