How to spend my remaining $490

I have $490 left in my budget.

I have already have an xfx r9 290 gpu, define r4 case, and an EVGA 600w bronze psu.

How should I spend my $490 to complete my build (including a monitor)?

I may be able to scrounge up some more money, so slightly over budget suggestions are welcome.

With black Friday / Cyber Monday soon approaching i'm hoping to get some good deals.

Thank you in advance.:)

I'd do this:

Thanks for the quick response.

Just a few questions:

  • do i need the cpu cooler if i do not overclock
  • do i need extra fans for the define r4 (comes with 1 intake, and 1 exhaust)
  • how would much would the fx 8320 or even 6300 bottleneck my 290

There are a few things I forgot to mention

  • Prefer Windows (Linux is an option though) ($100)
  • Need optical drive ($20)
  • Need Keyboard/mouse($15)

8320 won't bottleneck the 290 in non CPU intensive games but if you are playing multiplayer like Planetside or other non-Mantle MMOs you might encounter bottlenecks.

Buy every Pokemon game ever made...

How about this?

FX 8320=$120

WD BLUE 500gb=$50

BTW buying every pokemon game.....yes

Hyper D Fury Red 2x4gb=$83

Logitech Keyboard/Mouse Combo=$15

ASUS Optical Drive=$20

Gigabyte AM3+ AMD 970 MOBO=$70

Windows~$100

Monitor=?$100???

Total= $560

I'm $70 over budget but with cyber Monday who knows maybe I can pull it off

An 8320 should be powerful enough to run games through PlayOnLinux, so I recommend using Linux unless you're Ok with the direction of Microsoft. An 8350 goes for $130 which is $10 more than an 8320, so why not? The stock cooler is fine, however plan to have a CPU idling at 50-55C. The stock case fans should be enough, but in the future add more as 290s get hot. A 290is overkill for anything less than 1080p gaming, and I don't think you'll find one for less $120 unless you are fine with eBay.

Ok I'll take that into consideration. Thanks.

I have found some pretty cheap monitors, but what troubles me most about them is the contrast ratio 5000:1

These monitors are about $100, and for $150 there a monitors with a contrast of ~ 20M:1

are the 5000:1 going to look really crappy compared to the 20M:1

and is 20M:1 overkill, what is a good ratio?

Intel is definitely a better option than AMD at this point, for a new build. There really isn't much reason to go with AMD unless you don't have the budget. You also don't need to go with an unlocked i5 either (inb4 heathen). The better IPC of Intel is better for most games, even in many modern games. I could go find some benchmarks to prove it if you really need it, but at this point it is kind of just accepted.
