just curious what do people do tk set their first time builds up properly after drivers… any secrets… does fastboot really make a difference?
Fastboot is pretty worthless IMO. Also makes getting into the Bios a pain if you ever have to because USB wony initialize till after the splash screen. There’s no real secret to setting up a system just check device manager to see if everything is installed right, update audio from default drivers and update nvme if you’ve got a Samsung M.2. Of course also update graphics drivers.
i just got a 960 pro m.2 for 40% off haha
how woyld u update the nvme
Go to Samsung’s website and look up the product then there should be a support or drivers category to download the drivers from. Gives like a 200mb/s boost over default drivers.
Ninite lets one install multiple programs at once. It has a good list of “Install These First” software.
Of course, get the device drivers from the manufacturer’s website for your mobo, GPU, and whatever else you have attached. BIOS update too (sometimes for the GPU too).
If you’re using an SSD, I would change some settings related to superfetch and the pagefile. I found a quick guide that will help you. Maybe ignore the part about TRIM. You want to avoid constant writes to an SSD. For me, depending, I would keep most things on the HDD. I keep a few games on my SSD.
Also, I usually go through and turn off any services I know I won’t use. I won’t tell you what you do/don’t need because that is up to you, and you should understand what individual services do on a windows setup. I’m not sure how well/what it breaks on Windows 10 (7 user myself), so that may be something to consider.
Personally this is pointless to do as it takes 200 plus terabytes of data before and SSD starts to show wear.
