How to reduce my ping. I have been playing Xonotic. My ping is up in the 199 area. Is there a way I can improve my ping?
You can cut about 2 nanoseconds off for every foot of cable you get rid of :)
Try playing on a server that's closer to you.
If you're using wifi, try a direct connection.
Pause or exit out of programs that are using your internet.
Make sure someone in your house isn't hogging the internet downloading terabytes of porn.
Ping is like Echo, is the time it takes for your packages to arrive to the server and come back, like a sonar. So if the server is very far away your ping would be higher. If your line is being used for something like Torrents, P2P videocalls, well, almost anything would make your ping to rise because your line has to do two or more things at a time.
So try to connect via Cable, and usually the closer to the entrance of the house your router is, the faster data will arrive to the server. Good Luck! :)
